Job Description

Job Summary: Under close supervision of the supervisor or Medical Technologist, and according to detailed instructions, performs routine procedures in accordance with established departmental procedures and professional standards. Assists in performance of patient tests, manually and through use of automated clinical laboratory equipment, reagents and /or test methodologies. Performs culture plating techniques on a variety of specimens, and assists pathologists at the grossing bench, retrieves patient tissue specimens / prepares slides and exchanges chemicals on the tissue processor.

Hours: Full-time 8:30am-5pm Monday through Friday; Includes every other weekend; No Holidays Required:

+ High School Diploma

+ Ability to understand instructions and make judgments

+ A strong orientation to detail to ensure proper labeling of patient specimens, verification of patient information and correct input of data and the ability to perceive similarities and differences in color

+ Ability to perform related clerical and service tasks such as answering phone inquiries from nursing staff and physicians and relay results data as required

Preferred:

+ Minimum one year of previous clinical lab experience in specimen processing
