Apex Systems, the Nation’s 2nd largest Technical Staffing and Services Firm, has an opening for a Database Administrator for a Large Mobile Network Operator company in Chicago for a 12-month contract. Open to non-local candidates.

CLIENT is looking for a Database Administrator to Administer and maintain the security and integrity of the databases. Implement data models and database designs, data access and table maintenance codes. Resolve database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues. Lead the efforts of installing and maintaining database management software.

Role Specific Responsibilities
• Work with the Information / Data Architect and Database Designer / Modeler to help implement the physical data model for the development and / or production environments
• Help develop and validate the database implementation plan
• Support the data loads into the databases
• Create database objects and maintain their physical organization / relationships
• Provide input, as needed, to the development of business cases when enterprise-wide database solutions are proposed
• Ensure that the application, and any enhancements, interact efficiently with the database
• Develop and implement database performance monitoring process and analyze monitoring data for performance optimization opportunities
• Manage the on-site backup and recovery process and / or support of the off-site backup and recovery teams
• Plan for and execute any required database upgrades and migration (patches, etc.)
• Communicate database requirements to the development team for the design and implementation of database-related code
• Perform model walk-through to educate the technical and business communities, as needed
• Help define back-up & recovery strategy
• Help define archiving strategy
• Develop and implement standards for data object naming and database design
• Participate in project estimating activities
• Produce technical documentation related to the databases under management according to technology standards
• Provide off hours support as required

Business Partnership
• Establish strong working relationships with Information / Data, Application and Technical Architects, other team members; all functions within technology area; and across the business as appropriate

People Management
• Manage individual workload and deliver to agreed upon project milestones
• Actively participate in HR performance measurement processes
• Coach / mentor other team members as appropriate
• Demonstrate ability to work in team environment and help resolve issues
• Communicate status / risks to manager regarding delivering solution on time

Qualifications
• College degree, or specialized training or equivalent work experience
• Experience / advanced knowledge of logical and physical database modeling concepts and techniques
• Knowledge of the company’s business practices, and familiarity with the company’s products and services
• Knowledge of database performance factors, monitoring tools and tuning procedures
• Knowledge of productivity factors and ability to understand impact of issues on overall database performance
• Knowledge of fault detection and resolution processes
• Knowledge of maintenance tools and procedures
