The Automation/Controls Technician will be working at the SW Chicago facility. This person will be responsible for assisting with the designing, building, maintaining, and troubleshooting of the facilities PLC and robotics cells with an emphasis on Continuous Improvement and accomplishment of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost goals. This person will work closely with fellow team members, Engineers, Quality, and Maintenance to help improve machine performance and eliminate waste in the manufacturing process.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• The Automation/Controls Technician will maintain the automation systems in the factory.
• These systems include, robotic material handling, induction heating, process instrumentation, power supplies, control panels, motor controls, PLCs, and HMIs.
• Be the technical lead on new projects and assist in the design of machine installations for automating the factory and improving manufacturing efficiency.
• Implement improvements driven by KPI goals.
• Comprehend and complete ALL required reports.
• Assure that all Safety, Quality and Production expectations are exceeded.
• Ensure that work areas are maintained in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
Experience:
• 3+ years of programming, troubleshooting, and designing PLC controlled automated systems.
• BS or AA degree in a related technical discipline or equivalent experience
• Experience in steel/automotive manufacturing strongly preferred.
• Ability to logically approach equipment troubleshooting situations and take corrective action.
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Lean Manufacturing experience a plus
• Allen Bradley programming experience
• Robotics experience (Fanuc, ABB)
Working Conditions:
This position is primarily in the plant. This position will be exposed to the various weather elements daily.
