Financial Affairs is headed by the Chief Financial Officer and is divided into six groups: Financial Affairs; Treasury; General Accounting; Budget Management Analysis and Contracts; Grant Management; and Procurement Operations. The core mission of these groups is to provide accurate financial information so that Metra can run its business efficiently. Together these departments employ approximately 170 people.

Under general supervision, the Accountant 2 performs intermediate-level professional accounting work of moderate complexity analyzing accounts, transactions, and documents; coding, reconciling, and adjusting accounting data; compiling, consolidating, and analyzing fiscal information; preparing financial statements and reports; and performing special projects and related duties as required. Review and analyze documents to ensure proper authorization and compliance with Metra procedures, government regulations, contract specifications, and grant agreements. Prepare requisitions and code or analyze moderately complex financial transactions in accordance with generally acceptable accounting principles. Monitor account and project balances for availability of cash flow and recommends actions to meet financial obligations. Compile, analyze, and prepare information for reports. Research and respond to accounting inquiries.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline.
In addition to 1. above, must have two (2) years of professional accounting experience.
Good knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
Good knowledge of mathematical principles and applications.
Good knowledge of internal controls.
Good knowledge of applicable computer software applications.
Good organizational skills.
Good analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
Good computer skills, specifically Microsoft Excel and Dynamics AX.
Good interpersonal skills.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work in a detailed oriented fast paced environment.
Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment and handle sensitive and confidential information with tact and courtesy.
Ability to interact with individuals of all levels both within and outside of the organization
Preferences:
Experience using ERP systems, Microsoft Dynamics AX is preferred.
