Job Description

Drainage Engineer to join our growing office of roadway, highway, structural, transit, rail, and intermodal designers and construction inspectors as a roadway drainage engineer on Phase I and Phase II projects.

+ The Drainage Engineer will be a member of our highway division and will take an active role in drainage design for projects in the Chicago and Great Lakes region.

+ The successful candidate should have a Bachelor in Science degree with an Illinois Professional Engineer License or the ability to achieve the license within 12 months.

+ The successful candidate will have 10 years of progressive experience.

+ The candidate should have a strong oral and written communication skills with experience with hydraulic and hydrology modeling software including HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, PondPack, StormCAD and SWMM/HydroCAD.

+ The candidate should have a good understanding of MicroStation/Geopak.

+ The individual will also be called on to work closely with other teams on multi-disciplinary projects.

+ The engineer will have the opportunity to work on challenging projects in a unique and dynamic work environment.

General Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

+ Responsible for all phases of project development related to storm water management, flood plain studies, hydraulic analysis and design, IDOT Location Drainage Studies and storm water BMP selection.

+ Analyze information and data to perform drainage design tasks.

+ Make decisions independently on engineering problems and methods, and occasionally represent the organization in meetings to resolve important questions, and to plan and coordinate work.

+ Receive instructions from the Project Manager or Senior Project Engineers as to the general results expected.

+ Seek technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.

+ Responsible for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.

+ Keep the Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.

+ Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal network, and participating in professional societies

+ Perform as a staff advisor and consultant for technical specialty.

Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s degree in civil engineer with a focus on hydrology or hydraulics

+ IDOT, Illinois Tollway, Chicago Division of Water Management drainage experience

+ Familiarity with Lake County SMC, DuPage County DEC, ACOE, MWRD, and other storm water agencies and ordinances

+ Proficiency with ArcGIS
