What’s the role?

This role provides technical and process engineering support to the powder manufacturing plant at Michigan City. This includes identifying and implementing improvements in product quality, production rate and product costs; providing run guidelines; coordinating plant trials and product development efforts; and providing process design support to capital projects.

Additionally, this role provides technical oversight of the Deepwell injection process, ensuring that the plant remains in compliance, supervises all EPA-required testing and reporting. Also supervises the QA/QC Lab Technicians (4) to ensure accurate and consistent reporting of analytical data to support high quality production. Manage the technical resources needed to further the plant goals of safety, quality, and delivery including cost and rate improvement.

+ Ensures integration of related discipline activities to achieve delivery which is safe (all aspects of HSSE – personal/process safety and environment), fit for purpose and meeting cost-value optimization.

+ Performs tasks within design, operation, or maintenance of facilities/plant, interfacing with external stakeholders and managing contractors.

+ Independently manages the relation with Design/asset optimization activities to concentrate on routine topics (guided by procedures or multiple precedents). Has greater exposure to process integration, as the job holder needs to integrate a wider range of disciplines when undertaking design activities for projects.

+ Works as an autonomous Process Engineer, translates the guidelines and standards into practice and solves common technical challenges. Works within company standards and policies under defined directions while receiving occasional guidance on techniques. Makes recommendations and improvements to existing processes.

Majority of duties performed, but not meant to be all-inclusive or to prevent other duties from being assigned:

+ Contribute as an individual to safe and environmentally sound plant operations. Achieve SC&T HSSE expectations. Respond to hazards immediately by reducing risks, reporting incidents and participating in determining the root cause. Comply with the Management of Change procedures

+ Review and analyze plant production data in order to maintain product quality and production rate, in addition to developing improvements in the process 2. Process order analysis of yield and First-Time Quality.

+ Identify and implement improvements in product quality, yields, rates and product costs.

+ Ensure excellent performance of the Michigan City Quality Assurance program.

+ Act as coordinator for the plant for new product trials and for process changes, preparing trial run plans and reports in a timely manner and coordinating changes needed for successful commercialization.

+ Prepare and maintain Process Specification documents (Run Guidelines) to communicate process requirements to Operations to ensure products are manufactured according to established Process Definitions and Product Specifications. As well as managing deviations as needed to maintain quality and delivery.

+ Provide technical assistance to PTL’s and Operators regarding making changes to recipes based on raw material availability and process conditions.

+ Provide formal and informal technical training to operations personnel.

+ Develop, administer, and apply ISO Quality Management System (QMS) documents, procedures/standards, forms and records critical to product realization and conformity requirements.

+ Lead root cause troubleshooting of process and quality equipment problems.

+ Provide technical oversight of Deepwell injection process to ensure that plant remains in compliance as designated licensed operator for site.

+ Monitor injectivity of wells, predicting decay and scheduling stimulations to maintain adequate injection capacity.

+ Prepare injection well EPA monthly operating reports and coordinate EPA-mandated testing along with HSSE Advisor.

+ Actively lead site Quality and Asset Utilization improvement initiatives.

+ Communicate within SC&T and the technical community and Coordinate internal and external customer concerns.

+ Manage capital projects, as assigned using Shell Project Management System Front-end Loading (FEL) techniques to deliver projects safely, on time, on budget and with 100% of promised scope items

What we need from you?

+ A legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

+ Minimum of a Bachelor of Science/Engineering in Chemical Engineering or a related field

+ With ten (10) years of experience in chemical manufacturing preferred.

+ Pass & maintain Deepwell Operator Certification.

+ Possess strong computer, organizational and time management skills

+ Ability to work in excess of the normal 40-hour workweek, including non-standard hours as required by business needs.

+ Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing to all levels of the company

+ Ability to communicate on the phone, read & comprehend written material. Ability to write policies, correspondence, prepare and make presentations to groups.

+ Ability to prepare and present training sessions and to train and develop others.

+ Ability to travel as required for training and company business

+ Ability to access, unassisted, all required areas of the facility

The base salary range for this position is $122, 000 – $182, 000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
