Job Description

This position is primarily responsible for the installation, maintenance, and operation of the campus wireless network and related equipment. This position receives, analyzes, and resolves all wireless tickets; researches and recommends wireless solutions for students, faculty, and staff; plans, designs, and implements wireless solutions. Additional responsibilities include working with internal and external users; making recommendations on how to solve users' problems without impacting other networks, systems, or services; participating in strategic planning; and assisting with the support of the wired network.

This position provides support to central and departmental technical staff of Illinois State University when needed. This position responds to network problems reported by the end user to the campus helpdesk.

Networking configurations, standards, and conventions on ISUnet are coordinated among the network engineer staff within the Networking team. In addition, assistance and guidance is provided to other technology groups on campus for resolving network problems or configuration issues.

Infrastructure Operations and Networking (ION) manages the physical server, virtualization, and storage infrastructure for the University along with offering communication and collaboration support in areas such as email, shared storage, and SharePoint. Additionally, ION provides networking infrastructure and delivers audio and video communication capabilities to campus.
