Senior Veteran Outreach Coordinator

The Center for Veterans and their Families at Rush (RHP) is a clinical resource center dedicated to assisting and supporting current service members (Active Duty, Reserve and National Guard), veterans, and their families, with vital clinic services focused on PTSD, TBI counseling and therapies. RHP will provide those services in support and collaboration with existing veteran and service member organizations. The Sr Veteran Outreach Coordinator will be the primary advocate in leading the communication and education efforts about RHP services and programs. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Facilitates the development and implementation of RHP programs and services and promotes these services throughout the community to service members, veterans, service family members and other non-profit and veteran governmental organizations.

2. Develops community support and speaks on behalf of RHP. Assists with grassroots efforts and supports specific campaigns as needed. This may include assistance with fund raising for RHP.

3. Ensures that the community understands how the programs and activities are addressing needs and ways in which veterans and family members can actively participate in achieving goals.

4. Develops and maintains working relationships with related healthcare and case managers at area VA, Department of Defense, and other non-governmental organizations (NGO’s) to ensure that the service member/veteran/ family members are aware of the services and programs that RHP provides¡P Identifies resources in assigned area of responsibility for RHP participation, as well as outreach/awareness, resource development, partnership, speaking opportunities.

5. Ensures that program partners are identifying best practices and lessons learned and sharing information.

6. Meets with individual service members, veterans, and their families to introduce RHP programs and services. Facilitates opportunities for meetings/introductions to RHP Case Managers.

7. Serves as a point of contact for RHP services and programs, and refers service members, veterans, and their families to appropriate internal Rush associates and other organizations as needed.

8. Supports RHP by acting as a representative at events for, or benefitting, RHP (ie: social events, media opportunities, recreational events, fundraising events, etc.).

9. Actively participates in and/or plans events for the RHP as needed. Identifies opportunities for publicity and encourages partners to represent work at events or in the media.

10. Oversees the implementation of activities and goal progression over time to ensure that deliverables are completed and tracked. Leads the development of communication plans as needed.

11. Strategizes and works closely with RHP case managers to ensure that each veteran and /or family member is adequately supported and aware of internal and external services and programs available.

12. Participates in case management duties with veterans and their families, as needed.

13. Understands, contributes to, and promotes the mission of RHP.

14. On a quarterly basis, participate in team reviews of strategy and marketing plans to assess RHP team’s results and any emerging opportunities.

15. Provides training to new team members and assists with orientation.

16. Acts as a thought leader for the team and provides Veteran Outreach Coordinators with support as needed.

17. Acts as point person for daily questions from the team.

Required Job Qualifications:

+ Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.

+ At least two or more years of experience working as an outreach coordinator.

+ Two years of relevant military work experience.

+ Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

+ Excellent listening skills.

+ Strong relationship building skills both with organizations and individuals.

+ Strong teamwork is essential.

+ Strong customer service focus.

+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and Microsoft Exchange is essential.

+ Possession of valid US state driver’s license with access to personal transportation.

+ 75% of time will be spent traveling throughout the continental United States.

+ Non-traditional work hours: Schedule flexibility is required to support attendance at evening, overnight and weekend events as needed.

+ Ability to review and analyze the information from activity reports and work with RHP Director to better direct resources to various outreach efforts.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

+ Experience working with military rank structure, military families, protocols and culture.

+ Three years of experience in community relations, community outreach or participation in marketing events and experience in relationship-building with military organizations, veterans associations, and other targeted non-profit organizations.

+ Experience using social networking (including Facebook and Twitter) as related to service member and veteran engagement.

+ Honorably discharged veterans, Military Reserves, or veteran family members (mother, father, brother, sister, or son/daughter).

Physical Demands:

+ Participation in outdoor activities and events under varying weather conditions.

+ May require lifting/carrying items up to 50 pounds.
