Job Description
Thornton Tomasetti, seeks Senior Engineers – Structure in Chicago, IL.
Prepares analysis and designs for structural elements and systems. Coordinates all activities with project manager and other design engineers. Communicates and coordinates with clients and consultants (e.g., architects and civil/mechanical/electrical/plumbing engineers) to ensure clear understanding of project goals and expectations. Interacts with clients and team members regarding project information. Analyzes building structures (e.g., load, wind, gravity, and geometry). Interprets building codes. Determines project, design and construction specifications (e.g., beam size, column size, etc.). Guides/assists other engineers regarding issues such as codes, design criteria, and software. Coordinates and guides preparation of construction documents with BIM staff, clients, and internal quality staff. Spot-checks calculations and back-checks plan mark-ups and completed drafting. Performs construction administration services on assigned projects. Responds to RFIs from contractors and subcontractors. Organizes and maintains logs and files for structural submittal. Attends construction meetings and visits job-site at major stages and phases. Prepares field reports for clients. Performs full time site-observation for projects as assigned. Performs other functions as needed. Mentors other employees on various design techniques and on TT design standards, codes and software applications. Develops drawings and spreadsheets to create new standards. Acts responsibly to conserve energy and reduce waste in the office environment. Obtains and maintains professional certification.
