Sophomore Summer Business Analyst

at McKinsey & Company in Chicago, Illinois, United States

Job Description

Consulting
Sophomore Summer Business Analyst
Our Sophomore Summer Business Analyst (SSBA) program is an integral part of our diversity recruiting efforts and is designed to expose members of historically underrepresented groups in professional services to the management consulting profession.
Who You'll Work With
You'll work in one of our offices in North America for ~10 weeks in the summer. You'll work as part of a project team, collaborating with colleagues to solve their toughest business problems.

Our Sophomore (second-year) Summer Business Analyst program (SSBA) is designed to provide first-hand experience with consulting at McKinsey & Company to a highly select group of undergraduate students who are members of historically underrepresented groups in the management consulting industry. This internship experience is comparable to our Summer Business Analyst program.

Candidates who are currently undergraduate sophomores or in their second-year of undergraduate studies at U.S. or Canadian universities are eligible to apply. Students who self-identify as a member of a historically underrepresented group in the management consulting profession, including Black, Hispanic, Latinos, and/or part of Indigenous groups in North America, are especially encouraged to apply.

What You'll Do
You'll work in teams of typically 3-5 consultants, playing an active role in all aspects of the engagement.

This includes gathering and analyzing information, formulating and testing hypotheses, and developing and communicating recommendations. You'll also have the opportunity to present results and implement recommendations in collaboration with team members.

You will work with McKinsey colleagues, owning a distinct piece of the project. Some examples of the specific work may include interviewing stakeholders and experts, leading teams, building financial models, creating and delivering presentations, and working with McKinsey subject experts to develop perspectives and insights.

You'll gain real-world experience with the broad range of work McKinsey consultants do, including serving clients as well as helping to build McKinsey's internal knowledge and capabilities. You'll build critical new skills within a training program specifically designed for the SSBA program. You'll participate in a number of social activities throughout the summer to help you get to know our firm culture and interact with other summer interns, as well as members of our diversity communities.

You'll gain new skills and build on the strengths you bring to the firm. We start our support for SSBAs before the summer with an optional weekend-long program in the spring during which we focus on skill building and forming a peer community of SSBAs. Once you join, you are provided with a week of training, and a partner from your local office or practice is assigned to you to help guide you throughout your internship. Additionally, you'll receive guidance and support from your local office in the selection of client projects, helping you to develop your skills and build your network.

Successful interns may receive an offer to join us as a full-time Business Analyst after the completion of your degree.
