Position Summary
An Associate Director of Research position is available in the department of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics at University of IL Chicago. The position is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of the administration, evaluation, implementation and maintenance of the department's research programs as well as space and equipment management.

Duties & Responsibilities

Develop strategic initiatives in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics which facilitate new research collaborations within the department as well as with other departments and institutions
Help establish an alumni network and newsletter to reach out to alumni
Develop a philanthropy program for the Department
Assist recruited faculty members by providing guidance for the initial set-up of their laboratory.
Assist faculty researchers and trainees with the development and submission of grant proposals to extramural funding agencies. This includes developing timelines, providing scientific feedback on proposals, editing of documents, drafting of ancillary documents, and submitting proposals.
Help with the planning and management of collaborative grant proposals (Multi-PI grants, Center grants, Program grants).
Analyze the scientific infrastructure such as space needs and equipment needs and assist in implementing strategies that allow for optimal utilization to facilitate impactful research
Work with the Departmental Equipment Committee to maintain state-of-the-art research equipment.
Use scientific background and expertise to ensure departmental regulatory compliance.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned


Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications

A PhD in a Biomedical Sciences. Minimum five years of experience in management of federally funded grants. Knowledge and experience of research funding proposals with NIH, DOD, AHA, ACS and other federal/non-federal funding agencies as well as agency policies and rules. Demonstrated oral communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to convey information in a clear, concise way, synthesizing information and presenting it to others.
