SUMMARY

This Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for process improvement as well as new process design and implementation throughout manufacturing. Manufacturing includes CNC machining and metal forming as well as coating application and assembly. An individual in this position will have the authority to implement change and drive rapid improvement. The ideal candidate should be hands-on, entrepreneurial, and be able to continuously identify opportunities beyond those already identified. This position will be joining the Thomson team in Marengo, IL.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Identify waste in manufacturing processes
  • Prioritize opportunities based on impact to business (savings & commercial value vs. implementation cost)
  • Drive continuous improvement toward one piece flow manufacturing (make changes & measure results)
  • Manage larger planned process development projects to schedule
  • Develop new process solutions that are optimized for one piece flow manufacturing
  • Design in quality and use tools such as Poke Yoke
  • Work collaboratively with the Thomson team to develop and implement processes
Job Requirements:

Critical Competencies
  • Solid understanding of machining / manufacturing processes including but not limited to turning, milling, threading, grinding, and assembly.
  • Demonstrated success developing creative solutions to reduce process waste
  • Ability to utilize CAD/CAM tools
  • Good communication skills
  • Self-motivated team player
  • Able to juggle multiple priorities
  • Hands on approach, willing to "roll up the sleeves"
Education and Experience Requirements
  • BS in Engineering or minimum of 3 years' work experience in an engineering role
  • Knowledge of machining processes, tooling (round tool, insert, etc.) and knowledge of equipment (lathe, machining center, etc.) including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Understand PFMEA, statistical probability, and root cause analysis
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting/problem-solving experience in an engineering role
  • Demonstrated leadership skills resulting in measured improvement and sustainability
  • Ability to periodically support second and third shifts
