Summary This Medical Laboratory Technician serves in the Blood Donor Processing Division, Clinical Support Services Directorate at the James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center, located in North Chicago, IL. Responsibilities *THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION* Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Perform donor phlebotomy when assigned. Register donors for Blood Drive and ensure documentation on official form is accurate. Screen potential donors and discuss medical, conflict of interest or travel reasons that may defer a donation. Handle donor samples, component manufacture/testing/labeling, inventory management and shipping. Perform vital station testing for pulse, blood pressure, temperature and hemoglobin evaluation to qualify prospective donors for phlebotomy. Manufacture components for the preparation of Red Blood Cell, Frozen or Deglycerolized Red Blood Cells, Fresh Frozen Plasma, Cryoprecipitate and Recovered Plasma. Create and label manufactured products. Review testing for completeness and accuracy. Recognize instrumentation problems and perform quality control, preventative maintenance and maintenance troubleshooting on laboratory instruments. Perform other duties as assigned.
