The Advanced Practice Nurse II (APN) works within the multidisciplinary clinical team to provide individualized patient care through history and physical assessment, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, medication ordering, prescribing and management, formulating diagnoses and patient/family education. S/he promotes evidenced based practice by conducting or participating in research and academic activities. S/he provides support to the nursing and leadership staff in order to promote the advancement of the nursing profession at Lurie Children's and in the community-at-large. The role is unique to each division and in accordance with individual credentialing and privileging through the Medical Staff Office.

General Summary: The Advanced Practice Provider
Provides direct patient care and assumes primary responsibility for clinical management of patients in the ambulatory, operating room, emergency department, and inpatient settings. Conducts histories and physical assessments, orders and inteprets diagnostic studies, prescribes medications, formulates diagnoses, and provides clear communication and education to patients, families and staff. Promotes the Lurie Children's Hospital Power of All values within the multidisciplinary care team and to the community at large: Compassionate Service, Excellence, Respectful Collaboration, Diversity and Inclusion, Integrity, Discovery and Innovation, and Stewardship. The role is unique to the Advanced Practice Provider's specialty area and in accordance with individual credentialing and privileging through the Medical Staff Office.
Essential Job Functions:
Provides expert clinical care, education, consultation, advocacy research, leadership and mentorship. Obtains patient histories, performs physical examinations and develops treatment plans. Orders, performs, interprets, and communicates diagnostic and therapeutic tests and procedures. Manages primary, acute, and chronic health problems through comprehensive history and physical examination. Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions and performs other therapeutic or corrective measures to treat illness and improve health status. Promotes evidence based practice through discovery and innovation by participating in research and academic activities. Fosters organizational and departmental performance by participating in quarterly Advanced Practice Provider council meetings as well as hospital-wide initiatives. Meets the Medical Staff's Allied Health Practitioners core measures of performance related to patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal communication skills, professionalism, and system-based practice. Successful completion of orientation and maintains ongoing specialty competencies as outlined by the Center for Advanced Practice. Participates in research design, implementation, and interpretation. Participates in education and research efforts for patients, families, and the health care team. Other job functions as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree or higher from an accredited school of nursing appropriate for certification as a Nurse Practitioner. Two years of APRN experience and/or completion of a specialty fellowship preferred. Active licensure in the State of Illinois as an APRN is required. Basic Life Support certification required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification required in some specialty areas. Experience and certification as required for job specific areas and as delineated in clinical privileges through credentialing by the Medical Staff Office. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills, basic computer skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills.

PA Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree from a nationally accredited Physician Assistant program required. Two years of clinical patient care experience and/or completion of a specialty fellowship preferred. Pediatric experience strongly preferred. Active licensure in the State of Illinois as a Physician Assistant required. Basic Life Support certification required.
