ROLE SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the development of a clean and sustainable Paint Shop environment that maximizes daily production yields with the highest level of paint quality. Candidates for this position must possess a minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role in an Automotive Assembly Plant or Tier-1 Paint Shop environment. The opening is located at our Normal, IL facility and reports directly to the Sr. Quality Manager in Paint.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspect and collect defect data on production units at all stages affecting paint production operations which includes but not limited to Body-In-White / Metal Finish, Pretreatment /ED-Coat, ED Sanding, Sealer, Prime, Prime Sand, Topcoat and Finesse /Inspection processes
Generate clear and detailed reports that identify defect types, locations, quantity, DPU, etc.
Root cause the source of defects through detailed laboratory analysis and other analytical means
Lead the Paint Shop - Defect Reduction Team meetings with all process owners to implement countermeasures to mitigate defects
Conduct and lead all necessary line trials necessary to eliminate defects
Develop countermeasures and assist in all training operations to reduce defects
Develop and maintain the Paint Defect Library which includes collecting and organizing defect samples as well as
Training of team members in the proper identification of defects
Actively involved in overseeing the 3rd party Cleaning Contractor performance and identifying potential improvements in their operations
Able to interpret JES (Job Element Sheets) and Work Instruction Sheets
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in engineering or related preferred
Intermediate to expert-level proficiency with MS Office Suite
3+ years of experience in an automotive OEM assembly or tier-1 paint shop environment
Knowledge of various types of defects and how to analyze those to drive process improvement
Knowledge of problem-solving methodologies such as PDCA, 5 Why's, RCA, etc.
Ability to stand for 8-12 hours per day.
Required to walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Ability to lift and carry at least 25 pounds.
Ability to perform all duties in a working environment that may contain dust, high noise levels, hot and cold weather.
