Overview
The NIU Foundation seeks to fulfill its mission of fostering meaningful donor connections to support the legacy of Northern Illinois University. As the philanthropic partner to NIU, the Foundation supports emerging and priority programs and initiatives of the University.
Position Summary
The Multimedia Production Specialist collaborates with other content creators, including, writers, marketers, and social media content curators on crafting the Foundation's story-telling. Responsible for video and photo production, including pre- and post-production activities, interviews, B-roll, and event coverage, the ideal candidate must demonstrate creative excellence and execution.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Pre- and Post-production Activities - 20%
This position is responsible for all pre- and post-video production activities, including planning, storyboarding, scouting and securing locations, props, and editing photo and video, while incorporating visual effects/motion graphics, and music into the product.
All photo and video production must be high-quality and produced on deadline.
Maintaining and caring for video and photographic equipment, including cameras, computers, and other software and hardware.

Shooting Interviews and B Roll - 20%
Preparing sets and composing shots for interviews.
Conducting and directing interview subjects.
Collaborating with colleagues to understand and capitalize on the strategic reasons for producing the product.

Event coverage - 25%
Capturing footage at NIU Alumni and NIU Foundation events for archival purposes and for use in producing marketing, promotional, and stewardship videos.
Budget time appropriately to accommodate multiple shot lists and locations.

Script Production - 15%
Responsible for writing scripts for compelling, entertaining and inspiring alumni and donor engagement videos.
Must be able to review and edit scripts that are provided by other team members.

Distribution and Delivery - 10%
Deliver high-quality, finished products on time to internal clients.
Distribute to various web assets, online media outlets and appropriate social media platforms.
Managing Licensing and Talent - 10%
Responsible for securing appropriate licensing rights for use of music or other intellectual property.
Hiring technical extra help personnel as appropriate.
Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service)
Bachelor's degree in film/video production, cinematography, radio and television, documentary film production, photojournalism, communications, graphic design, or a closely related field to the position.
One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in areas including non-linear video editing, motion graphics, video lighting and composition, camera operation, graphics design, audio recording, video production, or a closely related professional area.


*Note Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) (Civil Service)
Knowledge of trends in the industry, and techniques and principles of camera operations, staging, lighting, audio recording and formatting of studio and location video shoots.
Knowledge of various video production and editing software programs.
Knowledge of social media platforms and the latest trends and best practices for multimedia applications.
Skill in producing high-quality video content for various outlets, copywriting, and editing.
Skill in verbal and written communication.
