Illinois Residency Requirement: This position requires Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date.

Student Affairs seeks a culturally competent and student-centered Student Care and Advocacy Coordinator to develop and coordinate programs and support for students in pursuit of a higher education degree. This position will lead SIUE’s student care, basic needs, and student parent support efforts that contribute to the retention, persistence, and graduation of SIUE students. This position will report to the Dean of Students. The Coordinator will maintain a high level of contact with students, especially student parents, students with food and housing insecurity concerns, students in care, and students needing support accessing benefit and community assistance programs. The Coordinator will also manage and respond to CARE reports and oversee the Cougar Cupboard food pantry. The position is partially funded by the Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) grant and specific attention to supporting student parents and single parents is a priority. The Coordinator will lead the CARE Team and may serve as a member or liaison to Conduct Assessment and Intervention Team (CAIT) and Behavior Intervention Team (BIT).

What a day of work might look like:

-Developing, establishing, and maintaining collaborative partnerships with on- and off-campus/community partners to support a comprehensive and integrated approach to student care, wellbeing, and basic needs.

-Engaging in problem-solving with respect to the unique challenges that affect student parents and single parents and assist the Family Support Specialist in the Early Childhood Center in developing training and initiatives to scaffold support.

-Overseeing the daily operations of the Cougar Cupboard Food Pantry including incoming and outgoing inventory, volunteer management, and the client experience.

-Reviewing, responding to, and managing CARE reports and the follow-up response strategies for identified students. Implementing support interventions to help students overcome academic, financial, and personal difficulties through skill building assistance. Ensure students are progressing through intervention plans, monitoring progress and reevaluating solutions as needed.

-Encouraging and soliciting sustained support of Cougar Cupboard Food Pantry, Student Emergency Fund, and other special projects through coordination of fundraising and donations, soliciting volunteers, and identifying best practices.

-Providing consultation for campus community members seeking advice about services for students in need and aligning campus strategies across departments.

-Helping students access stable housing, benefits and community assistance programs, and campus and community resources.

-Developing website content, printed materials, and other resources.
