Job Description

The Consultant Application Engineer is a consultative, technical pre-sales professional responsible for supporting Electrical Consultants (power system designers) that serve the Commercial marketplace. The AE must possess both strong technical and commercial acumen skills and must have expert application and product knowledge in Electrical Power Distribution, Power Quality, Power Control, Power Reliability, and Power Monitoring. The AE must be familiar with competitive product offerings and be able to position Schneider Electric products against these competitive offers.

In this position, the AE is expected to develop and sustain deep, meaningful relationships with key decision makers (VP's, Principals, Lead Electrical Engineers) as well as staff Engineers and Designers at targeted Electrical Consulting firms and other designated firms including end users or municipal accounts where specification influence is key. The AE is expected to achieve the position of a trusted "Technical Advisor."

The AE position does not have an individual sales objective, but rather by focusing efforts on influencing the specification, the AE will position Schneider Electric to win orders when the project goes out for bid, ensuring growth of the pipeline to be realized by the area sales teams. He/she must forge partnerships with internal resources (sales, product lines, and AE network).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Achieve acceptability of Schneider Electric's electrical products, software, and services.
    • Provide accurate pre-sales application and technical support by recommending solutions to meet customer's project needs.
    • Provide technical product/solution updates and training for electrical consultants.
  • Develop and maintain a target list of Electrical Consultants and other designated accounts in your market and develop/maintain a database of key individuals at these firms using our CRM tool.
    • Target accounts will include Electrical Consultants and End Users who influence projects containing a large amount of Schneider Electric products, regardless of purchasing location.
    • Develop and maintain account plans for top 10 accounts that are targeted to our key segment growth strategies and key solutions.
    • Work with target accounts to influence project specifications in favor of Schneider Electric.
  • Establish relationships with the VP's, Principals, Lead Electrical Engineers, and key staff Engineers at the Consulting firm and other designated accounts. Achieve a position as a trusted "Technical Advisor" to key individuals within the account.
  • Provide input to the Product Lines relative to industry trends, competitors' actions, and code trends.
  • Represent Schneider Electric in local technical groups like IEEE.



  • Qualifications:
    • Expert in Electrical Power Distribution, Power Quality, Power Control, Power Reliability, and Power Monitoring
    • Business Development and account planning
    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
    • Minimum of 6 years' experience in the design, application, or sales of Power Distribution products.
