Organizational Summary:

After School Matters is a Chicago-based nonprofit organization that annually offers after-school and summer programs to nearly 19,000 Chicago high school teens to explore and develop their talents while gaining critical skills that will set them up for success in college and beyond.

Thirty years later, now known as After School Matters, our program has engaged more than 400,000 Chicago teens and is the nation’s largest and most successful provider of after-school and summer programs for high school teens. No other organization offers programs to high school students at the scale and quality that we do.

We offer paid apprenticeships led by professionals in the fields of arts, communications and leadership, sports, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Our nationally respected youth development model has been replicated in cities across the country and earned us the City Livability Award from the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

Programs take place at community locations throughout the city, including three ASM buildings: downtown at Gallery 37 Center for the Arts, the Michael and Karyn Lutz Center in Belmont Cragin, and the Pullman community at Gately Park.

Currently, After School Matters’ annual operating budget is approximately $35M and employs approximately 500 staff across the organization.

Summary of Position:

After School Matters is looking for a data guru to join our People and Culture team to help drive people analytics to the next level. You’ll be the main point of contact for our P&C team for all things data, serving as an HRIS expert with ADP, and elevate our analysis of data through PowerBI.

Reporting to the Director of People and Culture, the P&C Data Analyst is an integral part of the team and will be involved with developing and maintaining the tools that allow the company to have the best analytics and insights on all matters that impact our employees and employee instructors.

This role will be involved in creating and administering reports, dashboards, and analytics utilizing workforce demographic and transactional data from multiple sources. While reporting and data analytics will be the primary focus of the role, this position will also support other areas of ASM’s People and Culture Department, which includes Recruiting, On/Offboarding, Learning, Performance Management, Benefits and Compensation. The ideal candidate should be passionate about using data to positively influence business decisions.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

+ Manage and maintain the pre-employment and offer process for all employees and seasonal instructors as well as teen interns.

+ Build and maintain People and Culture dashboards and tools to provide consistent reporting on key analytics that include: ASM People Dashboard, IDEA scorecard, Recruiting Dashboard.

+ Manage, maintain, and make necessary improvements to processes supported by Jotform.

+ Support annual compensation, benefit, audit, and regulatory compliance processes.

+ Complete ad-hoc reporting requests in support of People and Culture and business initiatives

+ Identify trends to existing People and Culture processes by reviewing and analyzing data.

+ Demonstrate and promote reporting best practices.

+ Ensure data quality of all reporting deliverables.

+ Coordinate with various ASM functions and departments to collect data and/or general information regarding the organization for reporting purposes.

+ Partner with various ASM functions and departments to ensure data integrity, to identify potential issues and troubleshoot to resolution.

+ Support maintenance and improvements to existing reports and Power BI dashboards.

+ Identify process efficiencies and look to implement solutions through technology.

Skills & Abilities:

+ Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency in MS Office applications required.

+ Excellent organizational, conceptual, and analytical skills; strong process orientation, problem solving and trouble-shooting skills; a firm commitment to quality.

+ Skilled in developing and facilitating collaborative relationships and interacting with people at all levels in the organization.

+ Demonstrated experience in managing multiple projects at one time, able to respond to requests quickly, willingness to be flexible, and able to work in a fast paced, high-energy environment.

+ Detail oriented and capable of meeting deadlines.

+ Ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment.

+ Strong oral and written communication skills.

+ Strong orientation to customer service (i.e., ASM staff and teens)

Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required; Computer science, data science, engineering, or related fields preferred.

+ 1-3 years related work experience.

+ Experience with a data visualization platform (Tableau, Power BI, etc), experience with Microsoft Power BI preferred.

+ Experience using SQL, R, Python, or other similar languages.

+ Experience with ADP is a plus.

Additional Requirements:

Staff are required to provide proof of COVID-19 Vaccination or have an approved medical or sincerely held religious beliefs exemption prior to starting employment.
