Job Description

Software Architect for BlueCross BlueShield Association to provide design recommendations based on long-term IT organization strategy; develop enterprise-level application and custom integration solutions, including major enhancements and interfaces, functions and features; store, analyze and retrieve the data efficiently using DB2; use a variety of platforms to provide automated systems applications to customers; provide expertise regarding the integration of applications across the business; determine specifications, plans, designs, and develop the most complex and business critical software solutions, utilizing appropriate software engineering processes; use Ab Initio, including query IT, data profiler, MDH, BRE and control center to track changes; break down business problems and capabilities into projects, platforms, frameworks, applications; produce software that solves business problems and/or creates new business capabilities; research and maintain knowledge in emerging technologies and possible application to the business; serve as a mentor to engineering and software design analysts on design scope, incorporation of best practices into design practices, etc.; provide clear direction, coaching and support to staff on project teams; develop programming standards and procedures as well as programming architectures for code reuse; use data warehousing and data mart to specify users; connect to various data sources using data schematics and data governance; provide both order-of-magnitude and detailed estimates for software development activities and artifacts; develop and refine estimating models based on previous project actuals and trends to improve accuracy of estimates; produce frameworks, models, and patterns that guide and direct the development of software applications and services; develop code artifacts – modules, classes, methods, scripts, etc. – along with corresponding unit test artifacts; perform SCRUM and Waterfall software development; apply KSH on AIX or UNIX servers; and produce and manage formal artifacts as well as write clean, readable, and standards-compliant code and unit tests. Requires: Bachelor's degree in applied computer science, computer applications or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent) plus seven (7) years of experience in application system design, development and implementation or, alternatively, a Master's degree and five (5) years of experience as noted above. Specific skills/other requirements - Experience must include (quantitative experience requirements not applicable to this section): Ab Initio, including query IT, data profiler MDH and BRE and control center; data warehousing and data mart; DB2; KSH on AIX or UNIX server; data schematics/data governance; and SCRUM and Waterfall software development. This is a telecommuting position that may be performed from one of any of the following states: IL, DC, VA, MD, WI, IN, FL, NC, PA, AL, AZ, AR, CO, DE, GA, ID, IA, LA, ME, MIN, MN, MO, NE, NH, OH, OR, SC, TN, TX, and WV.
