Reporting to the Academic Support Manager, the Workforce Academic Coach is a compassionate, committed, and energetic professional, who helps students stay engaged in their learning and will work along with students to successfully complete their coursework and requirements to obtain the industry recognized credential. This position utilizes best practices to assess the needs of students and connects them with campus resources.
Responsibilities
Attends scheduled course sessions, take notes, read course materials at the discretion of the faculty.
Partner with faculty to provide navigation and coaching in the classroom to help students overcome obstacles impeding academic success.
Provide students with strategies needed to be successful, self-regulated learners.
Foster a connection with other college departments and community partners to ensure high quality support is provided to each student.
Contact academically disengaged students to provide assistance with course navigation.
Monitor academically re-engaged students for period of time to track academic progress.
Attend and complete assigned trainings and meetings.
Assist with identifying new intervention techniques and services, programs, and/or initiatives that would benefit students' progress.
Assist with program activities, including documenting successes, data collection, reporting, and program evaluation.
Support continuous quality improvement activities related to student retention and completion.
Provide interactive learning activities that integrate study strategies with course content.
Maintain confidentiality at all levels.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Related Experience, Professional Certification or Bachelor's Degree in related field, required.
Knowledge of Workforce Development (BNA, Supply Chain, and Welding), a plus.
Previous experience in student facing role, a plus.
Experience working with diverse college student populations.
Proficient in technology including MS Office, with exceptional knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint; experience with using
cloud-based collaboration tools like Google Docs, Dropbox, and One Drive.
Ability to perform multiple tasks successfully in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision.
Ability to adapt behavior or work methods in response to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends.
Bilingual in Spanish/English strongly preferred.
