Civil Sitework Designer
Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a candidate to fill a full time Civil Sitework Designer position in our Springfield, IL office. At the core of our Power Market and the Civil Sitework Discipline is the desire to be good stewards of the public and private resources while incorporating improvements into the surrounding environment and in our communities. As design professionals, we serve both the private sector and public sector across the U.S. and abroad.

Position Profile
Position requires the ability to serve as a key member of the project design team aiding in the development of construction plans for civil sitework projects. This position will fall within our Power Market, who serve clients with the energy generation and transmission industries. This person is expected to work as an integral member of multidisciplinary design teams to plan and execute projects for a variety of clients including utility providers and private industry, but may also include, at times, local, state, and federal governments.Conceptual and final site design services for new facilities and infrastructure, site renovations and expansions will be common tasks, and span site geometry, grading, utility design, drainage/stormwater management design, development of construction cost estimates, and feasibility studies.

A Day in Life of a Civil Sitework Designer at Hanson
As a civil sitework designer in the Power Market your daily tasks will be broad in nature, but focused on engineering, modeling, and plan production, all with sustainability, resiliency, and the environment in mind. Interaction with regulatory agencies and districts, and utility providers will be expected.

Here is a snapshot of what you would do in this role:
Develop and direct development of civil sitework construction plans utilizing AutoCAD/Civil 3D software
Perform design calculations, utilize computer software for simulation, modeling, analysis and design, and work efficiently with other team members for project completion.
Occasional construction observation on project sites will be expected.
Collaborate with Senior Technical Staff and Project Managers.
Other duties as assigned.

What We are Looking For
We feel the following qualifications would set you up for success in this role:

Technical Skills:
Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or other Autodesk design and drafting software.
Interest in, or a resume of projects reflecting site adaptation and new site design for buildings and other structures; design of pavements, ancillary roadways, parking facilities, surface and subsurface drainage, and utilities.
Proficiency in the assessment and application of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
Willingness to learn related, commonly used, industry software for civil sitework, stormwater, transportation, and water/sewer systems design.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point and Teams, and other virtual communication software.

Soft Skills:
Desire, willingness, and ability to collaborate remotely with colleagues in other offices.
An ability to work independently and as a team member to develop and present concepts.
Must be able to build effective relationships with internal and external client bases, and a desire to network within the industry.
Strong oral and virtual communication, and a competency in technical writing.
Sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
Interest in experiencing a variety of assignments is important.
More experienced candidates will present the ability to adeptly interface with clients, construction contractors, vendors, and utility providers to productively resolve field related conflicts that may arise.

Education/Experience:
A minimum of 3 years of experience in civil sitework design is desired, though new graduate engineers will be considered.
A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program is the desired. Civil Designers with a Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, or a related civil or architectural technical education; and/or comparable experience, will be considered.
Out of town travel may be required at times.
Must possess a valid driver's license,
