The Tollway is a user-fee system – no state or federal tax dollars are used to support maintenance and operations. Operations are funded by toll and concession revenues.

In support of this vision, the Mobile Installer reports to the Mobile Shop Manager. Their main responsibility is for the installation and removal of all Tollway mobile communications and other electronics equipment. These tasks are normally completed at the telecommunications repair station located at Central Support Complex, but can also be performed at Tollway field sites.
The incumbents have regular contact with all Tollway vehicle operators, which include Maintenance and State Police Department personnel, to determine the nature of radio problems. Outside contacts consist mainly of suppliers to assist on troubleshooting and providing parts.
In many cases, removal and installations of the equipment is fairly routine. Must be able to disassemble the interior of a vehicle in order to correctly install the equipment. The interior must then be correctly reinstalled in order to provide for a neat and correct installation. Problems can arise, in which case the Supervisor would be required to assist in solving unique installation problems, and the establishment of priorities where conflicts develop between departments.
Essential Job Functions
- Responsible to the Mobile Shop Manager for both the quantity and quality of work performed.
- Must install and perform basic maintenance on all Tollway vehicle mobile electronic equipment.
- Must submit prompt and accurate documentation of installations and removal of Tollway equipment.
- Install mobile equipment operating both in the shop and in the field within the time frame required by the user department.
- Must have a working knowledge of volt meter, Ohm meter, power and hand tools.
- Must be able to work with objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Must be able to work in cramped or awkward spaces; such as the trunk of a car, under a vehicle dashboard, etc.
- Maintain good working relationships with other Tollway personnel to ensure proper quality of service. This includes training on the current job functions for new or other employees when required.
- Performs and completes all duties as assigned.
