Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking candidates to fill full time Associate Aviation Discipline Manager positions in our Midwest and Southeast regional office locations. These team members will be expected to take a leading role in the advancement of Hanson's technical abilities in the field of airport engineering and serve as technical leaders for a variety of aviation (airport) projects.
Position Profile
This person is expected to work as part of multidisciplinary design teams to plan and execute airport projects for a variety of clients including local governments and state departments of transportation throughout the Midwest and Southeast and beyond. Projects are likely to include rehabilitation and reconstruction airfield pavements and public access and parking facilities; site development, grading, and drainage of new improvements; replacement and placement of airfield lighting, signage and navigational aids, construction of new hangar and airport structures (terminal, ARFF, SRE, etc.), installation or replacement of aviation fuel dispensing systems, maintenance of pavement marking; and construction administration of each of the stated project types. Position requires the ability to serve as a key member of the project team providing direction and supervision to junior level staff in all areas of airport engineering and construction administration. Position requires the ability to work on a variety of aviation related projects, take direction from multiple project managers, and coordinate with other staff.
A Day in Life of an Associate Aviation Discipline Manager at Hanson
This person will be responsible for overseeing all aviation production work and staff in the respective region. You will be responsible for tracking, distributing, and balancing the workload for staff locally, coordinating with and reporting to the Aviation Discipline Manager to allocate additional resources from other locations and disciplines to deliver quality projects on time and within budget. Coordinating with project managers on current and upcoming projects, assisting with project pursuits, and helping to identify areas of opportunity.
Here's a snapshot of what you would do in this role:
Managing and developing aviation staff.
Working with project managers to develop project scope and hours for related tasks.
Working with local governments and state transportation agencies to deliver projects.
Delivering aviation project tasks on time and within budget.
Preparation and review of complex design calculations.
Preparation of construction documents for airfield projects ranging from commercial service airports to small general aviation facilities.
As a member of the Aviation Discipline provide technical support to all markets.
Support the development of the aviation discipline operating plan and aviation discipline goals.
Interact with clients to discuss existing and future projects.
Contribute to project pursuits.
Collaborate on base compensation, incentive compensation, and advancement for subordinate staff.
Provide input on staff development and training needs along with mentoring of junior and mid-level staff across multiple office locations.
Coordinate with Project Managers and Aviation Discipline Manager to help track backlog and staff utilization.
Technical organization participation.
Assist with business operations and other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

We feel the following qualifications would set you up for success in this role:

Technical Skills:

Demonstrated commitment to quality control procedures.
Demonstrated experience with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the related Airports District Office (ADO) and state and municipal governments, and airport plans, standards and related regulations.
Experience on project funding and programming is desirable.
Experience with and a high proficiency in using AutoCAD/Civil 3D is required.
Soft Skills:
Comfortable with communicating technical concepts to engineers, clients, and public stakeholders.
Building effective relationships with internal and external client bases.
Mentoring and managing junior and mid-level technical staff.
Provide staff training recommendations.
Help to manage an internal and external professional development program.
Oral communication and technical writing skills.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in civil engineering.
8 or more years of progressive airport engineering experience.
Professional Engineer license in the respective state the office is located or be able to reciprocate a license from another state within 6 months.
Supervisory experience, especially with managing staff across multiple geographies.Benefits
