Your Opportunity

Stantec is looking for a skilled Engineering Manager who will be able to lead the Substation engineering disciplines (Physical-Electrical, Protection and Controls, Settings, Civil/Structural) and Area Leads within the US-East region of the Power Delivery sector of the business center to provide high quality, cost competitive engineering services. Candidate must be a hands-on problem solver willing to work thru issues as they arise with staff, clients, offices, disciplines, and projects. They must also develop and implement strategies to unify offices, leadership, disciplines, and staff to promote a seamless, communicative working environment.

Your Responsibilities

+ Solid understanding of substation project scope and deliverables.

+ Collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams to develop efficient and reliable substation automation systems.

+ Mentor Junior and Intermediate Engineers and designers.

+ Capable of performing thorough review of Physical-Electrical deliverables, such as station one lines, key plans (layouts), conduit plans, lightning, grounding calculations, lighting plans, station typical elevations, and BOMs.

+ Capable of performing thorough review of typical P&C deliverables, such as, control building layout, P&C one-line diagram, three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, control panel layout and wiring diagram, station service AC/DC distribution diagram, bill of material, cable schedule, etc.

+ Coordination with equipment vendors, clients, and the supporting design disciplines.

+ Incorporate substation studies in detail design.

+ Lead meetings with internal and external stakeholders.

+ Prepare specifications, review packages, and construction packages.

+ Perform QA/QC and peer review on Construction and Review packages.

+ Plan, organize, and manage the day-to-day activities of the project from inception through engineering, construction, commissioning, and hand over.

+ Report the progress of the project to the client, Stantec Project Manager, and design team.

+ Act as a liaison between Stantec engineering and construction teams

+ Deliver design deliverables per project schedules and allocated budget.

+ Respond to RFIs.

+ Work closely with other disciplines to produce complete station drawings and package

Management

+ Preparation of project plans, management of work in progress (WIP), cost control, schedule, management of the coordination of the project engineering and technical support staff and management of project scope, including negotiation of scope changes with the client.

+ Certify that Stantec’s Project Management Framework is followed, including project reporting, management of project value versus project percent complete, and quality control/quality assurance procedures.

+ Ensure that Stantec Design Practices are followed as they relate to their Practice/Discipline deliverables, and they act as a focal point for the Stantec Project Practice/Discipline Team Members.

+ Oversee and advise direct reports to conduct performance reviews and training requirements.

+ Prepare and maintain a resource plan and effectively allocate resources for projects as they develop.

+ Actively evaluate resource needs and maintain appropriate staff size to support current projects and to support potential projects while maintaining target group utilization.

+ Develop internal network with personnel in other Stantec offices, business centers, and business lines.

+ Perform technical project audits to verify compliance with quality review and independent review requirements. Be the driver for consistent use of QA/QC processes and procedures.

+ Provide input to the business center capital and operating budgets.

+ Conduct a minimum of four independent reviews of final deliverables within the business center.

+ Develop, maintain, and implement personal success plan on a yearly basis.

+ Experience with project management principles, such as developing a proposal for level of effort, managing a budget/schedule, performing quality reviews, etc.

Safety

+ Audit the use of the Risk Management Strategy (RMS), Safety Opportunity, Stop Work, and Hazard ID forms.

+ Promote and train staff to incorporate Leading Indicators into their everyday work practices and monitor performance.

Business Development

+ Prepare, oversee, and approve proposal man-hour estimates and technical scopes to support the sales effort. Provide final signoff on proposals within fiscal authority.

+ Attract new business and expand current business by coordinating with key stakeholders within Stantec.

+ Interact extensively with clients, including developing new and existing relationships. Maintain personal relationships with clients to expand business opportunities.

+ Proactively use, promote, and manage the Stantec Pipeline for business development pursuits.

+ Promote the completion and responses to client surveys.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

+ Technical expertise in substation engineering projects.

+ Experience managing a staff and projects in a variety of locations.

+ Experience developing and managing an engineering services office.

+ Excellent written and communication skills.

+ Ability to travel up to 20% and work outside normal hours of operation.

Education and Experience

+ Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering

+ Registered PE

+ Minimum of 10 years of consulting engineering and/or direct power delivery experience with increasing levels of responsibility for staff, projects, and clients.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
