Duties and Responsibilities
Performs assigned experiments under the primary direction of the Principal Investigator (includes design, preparation for, and execution of experiments, followed by data analysis and figure preparation).
Serve as the laboratory compliance manager (maintains, updates and spot-checks records relating to general lab protocols, lab animal use and disposition, controlled substances, and chemical/ laboratory safety).
Provides guidance to students, research assistants, and research residents on best laboratory practices (e.g., proper lab notebook maintenance, general record keeping, and data analysis)
Attends to general laboratory matters including, but not limited to,: literature searches, supply inventory/purchases, interaction with sales representatives, participation in development of manuscripts.
Responsible for general maintenance of lab: ordering, restocking, organization/ inventory of materials (including archived biospecimens), cleaning, filing, preventative maintenance and repair of all instrumentation.
Serves as initial point of contact for lab members regarding problems/complaints lab members have regarding materials (including experimental materials, computer issues, timing issues for their work).
Monitors and instructs new lab members and summer students; provides instruction on how to correctly record and analyze results.
Serves as liaison with vendors and provides research on equipment and consumable products, including their associated protocols.
Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
Bachelor's Degree required; master's preferred.
6-10 years of previous job-related experience is preferred.
Qualifications
Minimum education: Bachelor's degree, Master's preferred
Job Experience: 6-10 years or Master's degree with experience
Familiarity with scientific graphing and statistical software packages
Familiarity with microscopy and/or other imaging techniques, including use of associated software for analysis
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Good time management skills
Experience with university/academic procurement/purchasing systems and procedures

Computer Skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn various software programs used in the research lab.
