Position Summary
Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, College of Pharmacy, invites applications for a full-time biology/biochemistry Research Technician. The Research technician will procure and culture various cell lines, and evaluate the effects of drugs on the cells including anticancer effects. In addition, the successful candidate will clone recombinant genes and perform transfections and analyze gene expression in cells for compound screening in our drug discovery programs. The successful applicant should also be able to establish and run cell-based and biochemical assays including radioisotope and fluorescence-based micro-titer plate assays. The individual will also work in core facilities to run flow cytometry and confocal microscopy assays. This work will take place under the supervision of Dr. John K. Buolamwini, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the RFUMS College of Pharmacy. Responsibilities will include procuring and maintaining mammalian cell cultures, cell counting and set up of cells in quantitative numbers for experiments. Plan experiments with the supervisor and execute the experiments, maintain experimental notebooks, and provide reports to the supervisor. The individual will also provide limited assistance to student interns, or rotation students to do their experiments.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
* Help to maintain biology research laboratory;
* Procure and propagate mammalian cell lines;
* Perform gene transfections for transient and stable gene expression in cell lines;
* Protein expression and purification;
* Make plasmid preps, subclone genes and make new gene constructs;
* Perform site-directed mutagenesis of genes;
* Perform Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, and ELISA;
* Perform RT-PCR real-time PCR analysis;
* Prepare and purify RNA samples for gene expression and microarray microRNAs analyses;
* Perform siRNAs, shRNA, gene knockdown transfections;
* Perform anticancer drug testing in cell culture;
* Perform cell-based solute transporter assays;
* Perform live mitochondria isolation and analysis;
* Perform flow cytometry analysis.

Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check
Must have proof of COVID 19 vaccination with booster or a university approved exemption
Required Education & Experience
BS in molecular biology, biotechnology or equivalent with two years of job experience from a properly accredited college or university;
At least two years of experience performing similar work.
