Overview

Job Title: Network Service Engineer

Job Location: Scott Air Force Base, IL

Security Clearance: Active, in-Scope US government issued Secret clearance.

Due to the nature of the work and US Government required, US Citizenship is required.

 

Responsibilities

Trace Systems has an excellent opportunity for a Network Service Engineer to join our team in support of our customer, DISA (the Defense Information Systems Agency) on-site at Scott AFB in Illinois.

DISA provides, operates, and assures command and control of the Defense Information System Network (DISN) services to the warfighter, national leaders and other mission and coalition partners across the Department of Defense, and national security organizations.

Duties and responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):

Provide engineering support and advanced technical operational support to the Defense Information Systems Agency Network by installing and configuring network systems, diagnosing hardware/software faults, and solving technical and application problems via phone, in person, or logging into the devices. (Cisco Transport Controller, Cisco Prime Optical, CIENA One Control, and GIG Interconnection Approval Process database)
Perform customer coordination, Initial Testing and Acceptance (IT&A), execution of all reporting functions, and complete data input associated with new service activations to ensure they are implemented in accordance with Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) standards.
Assist technicians with various types of telecom test equipment and bit error rate cell test sets (ACTERN, Firebird, Digital Lightwave).
Provide input on the design and evaluate various network components, recommend, and implement new technologies to enhance current and future network capabilities.
Provide specifications for network architecture and perform needs assessments.
Advance configuration, review, and development of network infrastructure devices (DWDM, MSPP, ODXC, CTP, routers, switches, etc.)
Utilize systems analysis techniques and procedures, including consulting with users to determine hardware, software, or system functional requirements in support of Defense Information Systems Agency resources.
Design and implement solutions to highly technical problems through testing, documentation, and modification of configuration data on network resources.
Design data and voice networks carried over various transmission systems, router-to-router connections using military and commercial protocols such as BGP and ISIS, switch-to-switch trunking to include VLANS, and circuit configurations through multiplexers.
Ensure all information (POC, location, & interface) is correct and formatted properly according to provided requirements.
Verify correct points of contact (POC) for each location through which the circuit traverses.
Engage with the DISA project managers and customers to resolve issues with incomplete or unclear requirements.


Qualifications

Secret clearance
Bachelor's degree with 4 – 8 years of relevant experience or Master’s degree with 2 – 6 years of relevant experience.
Additional years of experience can be substituted in lieu of a degree.
Proficient knowledge of various network hardware equipment specifications, configuration and testing processes, and industry specifications.
Experience with DWDM, OTN, IP, and encryption (Ciena, Cisco, Juniper) devices.
Ability to work in a team environment, but self-driven to complete assignments while continually developing proficiencies in processes.

Desired Qualifications:

Network engineering, problem management, and performance management experience.
Experienced knowledge of networking architecture, evaluating, and recommending new technologies to enhance current capabilities, and performing needs assessments.
