Description of Essential Functions (critical tasks):
 
 
 Job Summary: 
 Responsible for teaching the range of courses and labs in Welding offered by the college and coordinating the A.A.S. and Certificate program in Welding.
In cooperation with other instructors concerned, prepare or revise guides for courses offered in their division and submit to the Division Chair or appropriate Administrator for review.
Engage in activities related to the coordination of the Welding Programs, including student learning outcomes assessment.
Teach classes assigned by the Division Chair and approved by the Vice President following course outlines approved by the College.
In cooperation with other instructors concerned, prepare textbook recommendations and submit to the Division Chair for review.
Prepare requests for the purchase of new library books and materials as needed and submit these requests to the Division Chair for review
Prepare for the annual budget requests for instructional equipment, materials and other supplies and submit these requests to the Division Chair for recommendation.

Report attendance and grades as prescribed by the Director of Admission Services.
Attend division meetings called by the Division Chair and faculty meetings called by the administrative officers.
Arrive at the classroom prior to the scheduled class time.
Cooperate in the promotion of extra curricular activities by accepting reasonable assignments and encouraging student participation.
Serve on such committees for the betterment of the College as may be established by the administration and faculty.
Assist in registration as needed.
Consider the general and special needs of the student. Assist students in meeting needs or solving problems when necessary, seek additional help from other college services.
Observe, support, and enforce the regulations, policies, and programs of the College and inform the President in writing of any problem that might have a detrimental effect on the College.
Conduct oneself in a professional manner.
Notify the appropriate Administrator well in advance of absences.
Advise students assigned by student services.
Demonstrate commitment to the teaching/learning process.
Focus upon student recruitment, retention and success.
Use a variety of methods and teaching strategies that reflect the different learning styles and needs of students.
Show an understanding of the community college philosophy including its unique ties to the workforce and its district.
Work as a member of a team.
Participate in development activities and maintain current perspectives in class presentations.
Teach other manufacturing related and applied math classes as needed.
Specific Functional Job Requirements

 
 Education: 
 Associate degree in welding or related field is required.
Experience: 
 3 - 5 years recent industrial experience required. Candidate must possess AWS certification in Gas Metal Arc Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, and Pipe Welding or able to get certified in 2 years. Teaching experience is preferred.
Knowledge: 
 SMAW, GMAW & GTAW welding - plasma cutting - oxygen/acetylene cutting & welding - metallurgy - industrial valves and pumps - rigging & hoisting heavy components - industrial safety. Must be able to read blueprints and diagrams and locate components and parts assemblies from them.
Skills 
 Good command of the English language, computer literate.
Personal: 
 Versatility, positive attitude, enthusiasm.
Physical:  
 Ability to lift and transport 50 lb. Ability to perform general responsibilities in the classroom/laboratory and travel within the college district.
Machines and equipment used:  
 General and specialized machinery*, equipment, software, or technology appropriate to teaching discipline and classroom presentations. Personal Computer (PC) and Microsoft Office Suite-based institution. Canvas is the learning management system (LMS) employed for teaching. *SMAW, GMAW & GTAW welders, plasma cutter, oxygen/acetylene torch, rigging & hoisting equipment.
