Job Description

S&C is a specialist in high voltage switching, protection, and control, providing products for the electric power industry since 1911. Development Engineering is responsible for the integration of power hardware subsystems in new products. This position is for a team-oriented team member with a background in Mechanical Engineering with interests in product design and product development. Tasks will include building subject matter expertise in Mechanical Integration of Power Hardware and participating in design, testing and investigations during design cycles. This position requires a basic understanding and application of both electrical power and mechanical engineering principles. In this position, you will report to the Assistant Manager - Product Engineering.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Design components and assemblies for power hardware products.
Create drawings of designed components and assembly and follow GD&T and Company standards.
Verify producibility of designed components and assemblies by working with subject matter experts.
Work with internal and external suppliers to develop components and assist in the PPAP process of production ready components and assemblies.
Follow IEEE, IEC, and Internal standards to perform tests and properly collect data.
Analyze the data collected from testing and provide test reports with clear conclusions and suggestions for next steps.
Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop and produce safe and highly reliable products for the electric utility industry.
To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. MS degree is preferred.
Strong proficiency with designing components and assemblies using a CAD system, preferrably SolidEdge.
Exposure to BOM management approaches with PLM systems, preferrably 3DX or SmarTeam.
Experience working with manufacturing experts to create designed components and/or assemblies.
Experience with dimensioning and tolerancing, including GD&T.
Knowledge of basic electricity principles.
Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
Desire to work hands-on in a fast-paced engineering and manufacturing environment in a highly collaborative team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to build and grow professional relationships.
Very good interpersonal and organizational skills.
