Job Description
Actalent is hiring for an experienced physical substation designer. In this role you will be working on a number of Projects for Electric Utilities across the US focusing on Physical Design for substations throughout all phases. This role will require the ability to bounce from project to project rather than working on one large project for a long duration.
Will be working on a project team across the US with Engineers, Project Managers, Designers, and Drafters to complete High Voltage Substation design projects.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities will require the design of the following:
Substation General Arrangement
Substation Electrical Equipment Plans
Substation Section Views (Elevations)
Substation Detailed Bill of Material
Substation Lightning Stroke Shielding Plan
Substation Grounding Plan
Substation Conduit, Electrical Connection and Grounding Details
Substation Below Grade Conduit/Raceway Plan
Control Building Equipment, Cable Tray, Lighting, Grounding Plans and Section
Additional Responsibilities:
Interpreting and incorporating vendor information into design deliverables.
Performing walkdowns at client facilities.
Applying Client’s standards related to the work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Education/Experience Requirements:
7-10+ years of substation physical design experience.
A minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Drafting, or a high school diploma and 2 or more years drafting course work or equivalent technical experience.
Proficient with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of the computer.
Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.
Experience working on a design project from start to finish, i.e. working through all 3 phases of power
IF someone has AutoCAD Electrical Experience this would be helpful as well but is not a requirement
No Engineering Degrees allowed for this role
Must have Substation Experience with years of knowledge and expertise for the higher level role
