Actively hiring for structural engineering associates in the following locations: (buildings preferred); downtown  (buildings preferred); and  (seismic, buildings preferred); and Washington, DC. Applications welcome for any WJE location.
As an experienced project associate with WJE, you will become a well-rounded consultant primed to make a meaningful impact in your field. Typical Responsibilities:
Assume responsibility for the day-to-day success of multiple projects, including acting as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and project teams; and managing small-to-medium projects, as appropriate
Perform on-site investigations, condition assessments, and construction administration, which may include documenting distress, performance evaluation and field testing (including mobilizing and installing field testing equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems), collecting data and samples, and troubleshooting details
Apply sound engineering judgment and an understanding of governing codes, design guidelines, and construction documents for the analysis and development of practical solutions
Complete structural hand calculations and finite element analyses using relevant software packages (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS)
Prepare conceptual, preliminary, and final client deliverables, including written reports, calculation packets, construction documents, repair design details (developed by hand and in CAD), and project specifications
Contribute to company-wide objectives through involvement in office and company development initiatives, in-house Technical Resource Groups (TRGs) and research projects, and relevant industry committees and professional organizations
Qualifications / Key Competencies:
Master's degree or better in civil, structural, or architectural engineering
Three to eight years of relevant industry experience
Licensed Structural Engineer (SE) or Professional Engineer (PE) (per state requirements); EIT with demonstrated progress towards attaining PE/SE licensure will also be considered.
Solid foundation in structural engineering principles with a demonstrated interest in diagnostic investigation, forensic engineering, repair design, and rehabilitation of various structural systems and construction materials
Effective technical, graphical, written, and verbal communication skills
Team player mindset with willingness to proactively take on various roles and responsibilities
Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing demands, while maintaining productive interpersonal relationships and a high standard of excellence, integrity, and attention to detail
Physical Requirements:

This position requires visual acuity and listening ability. Individuals must have the dexterity to be able to operate office and field equipment such as computers, printers, fax, copier, telephone, voice mail system, and other office and field equipment. Requirements may also include:
Ability to attend meetings at various office, field, and construction sites
Ability to perform inspections of buildings and other structures, both visually and with instruments
Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs
Ability to perform work in the temperature extremes presented by work in the outdoors
Ability to read construction drawings, diagrams, printed materials, and computer screens
Ability to record data clearly and write passages for reports, letters, etc.
Ability to travel
Ability to safely work at heights
Ability to safely use and/or operate ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and other access equipment
Ability to understand and appreciate safety training specific to numerous workplace and construction hazards
Ability to safely work in a variety of occupationally hazardous locations
