Job Description

John Crane located in Crystal Lake IL is currently recruiting for a Manufacturing/Materials Engineer. This Engineer will support the strategic growth of the Ceramic/Composite Materials production lines by leading the integration of new and updated technologies (equipment & materials) to our manufacturing process. Use some independent evaluation, selection, and application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. We need candidates that have experience with Carbon, Ceramics and other compound materials.

Duties & Responsibilities

Evaluate feasibility of new materials & production technologies with regards to manufacturing, technical, quality and cost advantages. Review and approve new design concepts.
Lead the integration of new technologies into the production environment.
Provide comprehensive engineering leadership and direction in developing new products in carbon, ceramic & composite materials.
Provide detail engineering work and computer program analysis as required.
Verify material characteristics and that factory settings/testing are in compliance with applicable industry standards (e.g. ASTM and API) and Code requirements.
Investigate manufacturing difficulties and initiate corrective action.
Confer with vendors and suppliers regarding material or tooling availability, information, quotes, delivery dates, completion of projects, and new products and designs.
Interface with all departments, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure requirements, specifications and standards are met and maintained.
Review and approve solutions and responses to major field issues
developing, modifying, testing, and evaluating materials
providing technical advice about the suitability of materials
diagnosing faults
overseeing operational quality control processes

Diversity & Inclusion

 

The Individual

BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Material Properties
5 years' experience in product development, design, application, and service.
Experience in materials analysis & development strongly preferred.
Experience in specifying, procuring & implementing new and updated industrial equipment strongly preferred.
Understanding of ASTM standards, API standards, ANSI standards and/or other international standards.
Excellent communication skills, self-motivated sense of urgency, personable and well organized.
Strong knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Experience with ERP Systems
Attention to detail
Sound scientific and technical knowledge
Analytical skills
Teamworking skills
