Catalyst Technologies (CT) is a market leader in the syngas value chain. It develops and supplies high-value, specialty process technology and catalysts for chemicals and fuels processing to enable our customers to operate efficiently, profitably and sustainably. With CT at the forefront of the transition to sustainable chemicals and fuels, the transition to net zero is creating exciting new opportunities in this sector.

Lead and develop US engineering team to support Catalyst Technologies growth in the US and delivery of strategy in sustainable solutions. Initially focused in two key areas. Firstly, support to US based technology development activities and external interactions with third parties (start-up’s, universities, consortia and other companies). Additionally, support to the business development teams in low carbon sustainable fuels and chemicals technology areas, providing proposal and customer support.

Your responsibilities :

Build US engineering team :

+ Lead engineering input into Catalyst Technologies US focused activities.

+ Proactively develop and manager engineers within the US team to develop a team able to successfully progress opportunities ensuring alignment with Catalyst Technologies strategic aims is maintained.

+ Input into recruitment as the team continues to grow, defining changing needs of the team

+ Provide concise and regular reports, summaries and presentations of all externally managed activities to keep all stakeholders up to date on progress.

External technology development :

+ Work with the R+D, Innovation and M+I teams to identify opportunities where potential external collaborations might benefit reaching a solution and then identify suitable collaborators.

+ Provide technical due diligence and TEA analysis into early-stage evaluations, also ensuring that process safety is considered.

+ Attend conferences and other events to understand what is happening in the wider market and increase JM’s external profile

+ Work with commercial and R+D teams providing scope development for collaboration (JDA) agreements.

+ Lead interactions with collaborators when agreements are executed.

+ Work proactively with wider JM, engaging in cross business collaborations, sharing best practice and ensuring internal experts are included where needed, for example with JMTC

+ Remain up to date with latest developments in US energy transition eco-system, including develop more extensive relationship with US DOE, identify funding opportunities that are a good fit with JM strategy

+ Keep abreast of relevant literature and patents, and proactively look for IP opportunities and input to IP strategies.

Low carbon sustainable fuels and chemicals technology support :

Manage the local US team that will provide:

+ Support to business development of sustainable solutions in the US utilizing wider input from global technology teams.

+ Work with global technology teams to remain up to date with technology status for discussion with customers.

+ Support customer due diligence

+ Manage team and interactions with global technical teams to deliver proposal and studies.

Requirements for the role:

+ Degree / PhD in Chemical Engineering

+ Experience of a range of process industries / technology areas

+ Experience of novel technology development and commercialization

+ Experience of stakeholder (internal and external) management

+ Knowledge and experience of technologies in the syngas field -Desired

+ A self-motivated, proactive individual with high achievement drive and focus on technical detail

+ Ability to lead and develop teams

+ Ability to develop networks to work with both internal and external groups

+ Good communication skills including ability to communicate technically challenging problems to wider stakeholders

+ Ability to influence wider organization in direction for technology development activities

+ Ability to develop critical questions and plans from ambiguous situations
