The Opportunity

This position works out of our Lake Forest, IL location in the Core Lab Division. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems are often the first step in patient care decision making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.

As the Senior Program Manager, Molding & Packaging Engineering , you’ll provide technical project management leadership services for the organization for projects ranging in scope from on market documentation changes through complex product development & large capital programs. These services include planning, development & execution of projects / programs, driving and managing the project portfolio; evaluation of project deliverables; project scheduling, budget, cashflow development & monitoring; the identification and implementation of best practices & KPIs for the project management process; estimating and executing controls for projects; identification and benchmarking of process challenges and driving improvement actions. Manage multi-disciplined project managers to drive projects while addressing both strategic and tactical issues in support of division operations. This position ensures that the proper knowledge of best practices is developed and accessible to teams and individuals involved in project management ensuring regulatory, quality system, and all related Good (Documentation, Traceability, Data, etc.) Practice requirements.

What You’ll Work On

+ Lead and manage project portfolio.

+ Manages key project information & portfolio data, maintains reports on project portfolio performance for the organization.

+ Assesses & prioritizes new project requests based on compliance, business, and resource requirements.

+ Assesses risks & ensures robust mitigations associated with individual projects.

+ Evaluate project plan deliverables for completeness and provide feedback to ensure expectations are met and understood.

+ Ensures use of standardized project management tools, processes, and best practices across organization.

+ Maintains high project planning quality through project charter, accurate schedule, cost estimates and controls for projects improving project performance and Abbott’s competitive advantage.

+ Develop change management strategies aligned with project and business needs.

+ Implement & execute capital project planning processes and drive consistent application of these processes across organization.

+ Collaborate with and provide guidance to divisional leadership teams supporting project management standardization and drive improvements for project management processes.

+ Stay abreast of and benchmark with industry organizations to promote competitive industry trends and new technologies that are applicable to the services and operations within the division.

+ Identify new services or changes to existing services in the portfolio to meet and anticipate stakeholder needs.

+ Represent the organization with respect to project portfolio status & performance at IBP and GPR.

+ Early communication of emerging project risk & planned mitigation prior to issue development.

+ Manage project commitments by analyzing workload and securing the necessary resources to meet upcoming requirements for Division Engineering support.

+ Interface with external agencies, firms, contractors, and internal organizations to support projects being completed effectively and in the best interest of the corporation.

+ Drive business process improvements through evaluation of key performance indicators, communication of lessons learned and competitive benchmarking and analysis.

+ Develop standard processes, tools and templates that support the planning and management of projects.

+ Enhance project management skills and knowledge of the organization through training and education programs.

+ Manage a group of project managers and be accountable for their performance.

+ Accountable for all project support provided by staff, including cost estimates and project execution commitments for critical capital projects.

+ Responsible for recruiting, training, employee development and performance excellence.

+ Coach and mentor staff to assure the best possible business decision is made in consideration of the technical risk and business strategies.

Required Qualifications

+ BA/BS in architecture, engineering or related field, or significant years of related work experience is required.

+ 8+ years experience in capital project engineering or project management.

+ 2-5 years direct supervision experience.

Preferred Qualifications

+ Advanced Degree preferred.

+ Product design change management experience.

+ Project Management certification.

+ 3+ years applicable engineering experience in equipment, molding, packaging, industrial design, project management or related field and 5 years of progressive management experience.

+ 5 to 7 years’ experience leading engineering and or manufacturing based projects.

+ Demonstrated experience and success with planning and executing large & complex capital projects.

+ Strong communication skills to present to and educate various levels of divisional leadership and personnel.

+ Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills to influence consistent project management practices across Abbott.

+ Strong organizational skills.

+ Experience working in medical device or pharma industry.

+ Certification in Six Sigma Green Belt, and or Black Belt.

+ Lean and or operations experience.

+ Molding, product design, and or automated assembly process experience.
