Job Description:

Under general supervision, performs basic to moderate complexity calculations, modeling, data analysis, designs, on site evaluations and/or other similar evaluations for water resources projects (Ex: climate change adaptation; coastal analysis and engineering; collection systems; CSOs; dams; drainage; economics and planning; ecosystem restoration; flood management; green infrastructure; groundwater; hydroelectric power; hydrology and hydraulics; integrated resource planning; irrigation; open channels; outfalls; planning; pressure conduits; probability and risk analysis; reservoirs; sedimentation; spillways, gates, and outlet works; stream, rivers and wetlands; stormwater management; urban watersheds; water law and regulations; watershed management; water supply planning and systems; and water quality, etc.).

Provides technical guidance and training to more junior staff.

Reviews the work of more junior staff. Utilizes TKM systems and TKM material.

May pose technical questions that support development of the TKM body of knowledge.

May support TKM content development as directed. Performs other duties as required.

May create or work with a team to create a poster or other presentation material for a conference.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Civil, Coastal or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.

3 years of related experience.

Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience and technical ability to create FEMA acceptable 1D and 2D models for both Base Level Engineering and enhanced reaches.

Ability to work independently to develop models.

Experience using EPA SWMM and developing storm water master plans.

Skills and Abilities:

Must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to obtain a FEMA Badge, which includes a background investigation for a Public Trust position.

Intermediate knowledge of GIS software and practices.

Intermediate Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.

Intermediate Knowledge of engineering principles of design.

Intermediate knowledge of hydraulics as appropriate for technical work.

Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.).

Solid knowledge of other support tools such as mathematical models, scripting languages, etc.

Background Check and Drug Testing Information:

CDM Smith Inc. and its divisions and subsidiaries (hereafter collectively referred to as “CDM Smith”) reserves the right to require background checks including criminal, employment, education, licensure, etc. as well as credit and motor vehicle when applicable for certain positions. In addition, CDM Smith may conduct drug testing for designated positions. Background checks are conducted after an offer of employment has been made in the United States. Additional Compensation:

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
