Job Description

Job Responsibilities 60% Under general direction, serves as the Senior GenTax Database Administrator for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) supporting the Illinois Department of Revenue (DoR): Provides database administration and management, technical, advice, and guidance in the highly complex program aspects of the GenTax system. Provides database administration, maintenance, backup/recovery and monitoring for the GenTax database environments (SQL Server) individually or as a project team leader; directly participates in any discipline associated with the DoR’s lifecycle methodology. Leads teams in systems planning, design, development, installation, and maintenance support of the DoR SQL server database infrastructure. Utilizes installation and internal workings of relational database management products and data modeling tools which may include, but not limited to DB2, SQL Server, and ERWin in support of GenTax and sub-systems. Reviews and provides technical assistance and advice on database design, application design and SQL to developers and management. Provides technical assistance, advice and recommendations to application development staff and management in utilizing the registration databases and interfaces to them. Installs, migrates, and tunes relational database environments. Provides consultation to Section, Division and Program management. Provides input into performance evaluations. Utilizes MS SQL (Structured Query Language) Server, techniques for accessing relational data using programming tools including Microsoft Visual Studio, Entity Framework, and Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio in performance of duties. 15% Monitors the performance and use of database and database designs for the application systems implemented at DoR and performs analysis and tuning recommendations for improved performance and optimization. Participates in determining procedures required for the installation, updates, usage and security relating to these products and environments. 10% Recommends enhancements to operating procedures for improved methods and techniques for utilization or guidelines for applications development and maintenance. Makes recommendations to management regarding methodology or technical approaches for system design, performance improvements and optimization. Provides assistance with the use of design and application development tools including Microsoft SQL tools and GenTax tools utilized by client/server enterprise applications. (Job Responsibilities Continued) 10% Remains aware of new technology; reviews and makes evaluations of complex applications systems and hardware performance: Evaluates new technology to determine impact on existing and planned application development; develops measuring techniques for use in determining application performance efficiency. Evaluates the impact on conversions of existing systems and new software or computer hardware; performs tests and research studies as a prelude to recommendations to facilitate their implementation. Keep current with latest information available through continued education, publications, user groups, conferences, and other available resources. Leads or participates in various committees appointed for system conversions, system interfaces, system walk throughs, performance evaluations, and backup/disaster recovery for the registration systems. Coordinates initial training and on-going education of staff to familiarize them with the application, product, or system features and capabilities. 5% Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
