Job Description

Job Responsibilities 25% Under direction, serves as the Accountant Advanced to the Comptroller for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT): Performs complex accounting and auditing work and special projects, which includes, but is not excluded to, the review and maintenance of departmental funds, including grants accounts (DoIT Special Projects Fund). Prepares, summarizes, and examines related financial reports and statements for state or federal usage. Compiles data from Comptroller reports and accounting system reports into financial statements. Compiles accounting data from various financial schedules and system reports into financial statement entries. Applies Governmental Accounting and GAAP principles in performance of duties. Utilizes SAP system, the Accounting Information System (AIS), and State Accounting Management Systems (SAMS) in performance of duties. As directed, evaluates the more difficult accounting problems and records. Prepares comprehensive accounting reports to determine violations and noncompliance with the law and to detect and explain significant irregularities. Prepares detailed reports of findings and/or informs Comptroller of all issues, recommending and implementing corrective measures as directed. 25% Prepares, summarizes, examines, and reconciles fiscal reports: Prepares, summarizes, examines, and reconciles fiscal internal statements, ledgers and reports to assure agreement with source documents and system records. Prepares Comptroller reconciliations, confirmations, and reports. Initiates corrective actions for reconciling items. Prepares special detailed reports for the Comptroller. 25% Assists in the preparation, examination, reconciliation and analysis of complex statements and reports: As assigned by the Comptroller, assists in the preparation of internal statements, ledgers, journals, schedules and reports using various automated and manual systems which produce financial data used for planning, evaluating and forecasting. Prepares for review and final compilation by supervisory staff quarterly reports and annual GAAP statements. Reviews and monitors accounts to ensure proper coding/posting, scheduling and maintenance. Prepares statements of financial condition, trial balances, statistical reports, and balance sheets for various funds. As directed, assists section staff on assignments and special projects. 15% Prepares responses to fiscal inquiries: Prepares responses to fiscal financial reporting inquiries from internal and external sources such as Comptroller, other agencies, Governor’s Office of Management & Budget (GOMB) and entities conducting business with DoIT. 5% Performs development, testing and implementation of enhancements to existing and new systems. 5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
