Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT PROPELLER MECHANIC (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D0710000 and is part of the IL AASF 3, National Guard. Responsibilities As a AIRCRAFT PROPELLER MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-8810-5/8/10, you will perform maintenance, removal, installation, inspection, troubleshooting and testing of aircraft rotor and propeller systems. Major Duties โ€“ This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Test and troubleshoot aircraft rotor and/or propeller systems using special tools and test equipment. Repair and refinish blades/propellers using a variety of metal working tools and precision measuring instruments. Utilizing power hoists, special slings and balancing equipment, align and balance assembled propellers/rotor blades by making appropriate linkage adjustments and by making both chordwise and spanwise weight adjustments to bring blades into true balance. After assembly or installation of the blade systems on the aircraft, make final adjustments to balance, track, eliminate vibrations and ensure proper revolutions per minute (RPM) by checking blade track utilizing special tracking equipment and making weight, trim tab, and control linkage adjustments. Perform troubleshooting of the powertrain systems using special tools and test equipment, diagnoses any system malfunctions and makes necessary repairs. This includes disassembly, repair, and reassembling powertrain components, such as drive shafts, gear boxes, mast assemblies. Subject rotor, propeller, and powertrain parts to a variety of nondestructive testing to identify imperfections not otherwise detected. Operate magnetic, dye, or electronic equipment to identify or detect stress, cracks, or potential failures. Perform operational checks of installed aircraft blades and associated sub-systems both inflight and during aircraft maintenance ground runs. Serve as a member of the flight crew for the purposes of observing, recording, and diagnosing malfunctions, otherwise assists in determining the airworthiness of aircraft or the functioning of specific items or components when expertise or services are required to accomplish in-flight test of equipment. Diagnose any malfunctions of rotor/propeller systems and makes necessary repairs including disassembly, repair, and reassembling rotor/propeller system components, and internal hydraulic and electrical components using common to special tools, and equipment. Wear and utilize appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day. Qualifications AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code ยง 709), will be in the following manner and sequence: The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Warrant Officer/Enlisted โ€“ May not exceed the rank of CW3. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training that has provided the ability to perform assembly and disassembly operations and make prescribed modifications to aircraft propeller assemblies and their components in accordance with technical specifications, procedures and requirements; experience using hand and power tools common to the trade. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-10 Level โ€“ MUST possess specialized experience which includes experience or training performing standard, routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft propellers, assemblies, and accessories; experience or training performing maintenance overhaul, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of aircraft propellers, components, for rotary wing aircraft; experience determining maintenance needed from work orders, inspection reports, historical record, and by own diagnosis. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
