Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D2319000 and is part of the IL 182 AW, National Guard. Responsibilities As a NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTER (TITLE 32), WG-3705-11, you will serve as a Small Shop Chief (SSC) with the responsibility for the overall shop.Major Duties – This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Perform the full range of duties and responsibilities of the journeyman level, which includes, TMDE, PCAMS, Equipment Custodian, Supplies Manager, Hazardous Waste Monitor, Hazardous Communication Monitor, Spill Prevention Monitor, FOD Monitor, Radiation Monitor, Technical Order Monitor, Precious Metals Monitor, and Training Monitor. Plan and lay out work to be accomplished in the shop, which is then completed by the incumbent and lower graded mechanic(s). Independently determines appropriate maintenance procedures such as how and when the work should be accomplished. Estimate manpower, equipment and material requirements. Determine approaches, methods and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner. Plan, organize and direct shop maintenance programs/procedures under general supervision. Perform new inspections in order to prepare AF form 22, AF Form 107’s, and AFTO form 242’s for submittal. Devise and maintain all program plans and records. Determine maintenance/repair procedures needed without benefit of technical supervisory guidance. Requirements Conditions of Employment AFSC: 2A772 NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state’s National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. May be required to work overtime. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Qualifications AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence: The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Minimum rank TSgt, Maximum rank MSgt. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training that has provided sufficient knowledge to complete the work of this occupational series; Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to set up and operate test equipment, use test apparatus to apply tests to material or products, record readings, observe and record established reactions, and classify according to defined categories. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-11 Level MUST possess specialized experience which includes at least 18 months experience or training involving using ultrasonic and/or eddy current inspection techniques to observe, measure, and detect discontinuities and flaws; experience classifying test results, identifying material deficiencies and recommending courses of action for items of equipment; experience recommending engine components to be inspected and forwarding results to the appropriate authority; experience performing scheduled inspections of testing equipment ensuring compliance with established technical regulations and procedures. In order to be considered qualified, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in Federal service. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
