Role Summary/Purpose:

This position is responsible for conducting and leading other associates in key control testing activities of Synchrony Bank (‘SYB’) and Synchrony Financial (‘SYF’) to assess compliance with applicable laws and regulations and ensure prompt remediation of control deficiencies. Control testing is an independent 2nd line assurance process that, together with 1st line business surveillance and 3rd line independent audit, make up the three lines of defense that are the cornerstone of an effective control framework.

Essential Responsibilities:

+ Lead second line testing team in Risk Testing

+ Organize, train and lead a team of exempt testing personnel to test the control effectiveness within the business and ensure effective oversight of timely remediation of deficiencies.

+ Work with other 2nd line functions to coordinate testing activities

+ Manage the testing process from the creation of test scripts, to test execution and the reporting of results.

+ Build functional testing capability and technical acumen of team members within the disciplines of Operational, Compliance, and Credit Risk

+ Review reports and provide input/direction on findings and recommendations in preparation for review by the ELT and Risk Pillar Leaders.

+ Communicate and interact with senior leaders of the company across a variety of issues that arise during risk testing.

+ Make recommendations to business line management and staff for enhancing 1st line business surveillance processes to prevent or detect risk control deficiencies.

+ Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

+ Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of work experience in the financial services industry; or in lieu of a degree, 11+ years in the financial services industry

+ 5+ years of risk management, testing, surveillance or audit experience

+ 1+ years of experience leading teams of professional staff

Desired Characteristics:

+ Prior experience managing Risk or Audit test engagements

+ Familiarity with and operating understanding of consumer loan products and processes with a focus on Customer Solutions and Collections

+ Industry certification such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), or Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS)

+ Demonstrated experience in coaching, developing and managing the performance of geographically dispersed teams/employees

+ Use of personal influence and credibility to achieve organizational results by collaborating with cross- functional/cross-platform employees

+ Proven ability to influence senior management and initiate change

Grade/Level: 13

The salary range for this position is 130,000.00 – 210,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements:

+ You must be 18 years or older

+ You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

+ You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

+ You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

+ New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months’ time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).
