Brown and Caldwell has an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated Solids and Energy Environmental Engineer with experience pertaining to solids & energy to join our team. This is a great opportunity to work in a growth-oriented professional consulting firm. The successful candidate will work on various projects for municipal, industrial, and federal clients. We offer a collaborative, multi-discipline environment to develop innovative, cost-effective designs for new facilities, expansions, upgrades, and retrofits.
This position may be based near our Milwaukee, Chicago or Detroit offices.
Detailed Description:
Our ideal candidate will have strong verbal and written communication skills, be highly organized, and be capable of working in a diverse team environment and handling multiple tasks with competing priorities. You will be working with technical staff and executing the following types of work:
Perform engineering work with the Solids and Energy Specialty team on wastewater projects including solids processing and handling, biosolids end use, anaerobic digestion, biogas utilization, thermal dryers, and sewage sludge incinerators for municipal clients
Work with teams on engineering designs, preparing reports, construction drawings, specifications, calculations, and equipment selection for various projects
Analysis and design of solids and energy projects at wastewater treatment plants
Preparation of technical memoranda, reports, and electronic deliverables
Studies, permitting, and alternatives analysis
Check performance or conformity with plans and specifications through field inspections as part of engineering services during construction
Conduct fieldwork, such as site investigations, as necessary for various projects
Communicate effectively and coordinate with project teams including other disciplines (Engineers, Designers)
Data collection, manipulation, analysis, and documentation
Coordinate project work with geotechnical, architectural, process, civil, mechanical, instrumentation, and electrical engineers and consultants
Contribute to company standard detail and specification development and updates
Contribute to research and development initiatives to advance industry innovation
Participate directly in collaborative industry associations and research (e.g. WEF, NEWEA, NEBRA) and present at conferences to further represent BC's brand
Desired Skills and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering field required; Master's degree preferred
Minimum of 3 years of related work experience with wastewater treatment plant solids management (e.g. anaerobic digestion, biosolids and residuals, etc.)
Experience using engineering calculation software (MathCAD) is a plus
Advanced proficiency in Excel is a plus
Field/construction experience a plus
Good technical skills with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts both visually and verbally
Good written and verbal communication skills essential
Demonstrated ability to use standard computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint required
A valid driver's license and a good driving record required
Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending on skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Location A:
Salary: $70,000 - $95,000
Location B:
Salary: $77,000 - $105,000
