Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for all management functions of the plant Technical Group. The Technical Group’s primary purpose is to provide technical assistance to the facility. This involves support of the day to day operations and maintenance of the East Dubuque Nitrogen Fertilizer facility. The Technical Group also supports the long term capital project strategy and manages most large capital projects.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
BS Engineering or higher, Chemical Engineering preferred
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
10+ years of chemical plant operational experience required
Demonstrated leadership ability and experience leading a multi-discipline team required
Knowledge of safety and environmental state and federal regulations desired
5 years supervisory experience required
Experience with capital and operating cost estimating and economic analysis is preferred
Strong mathematical, reasoning, problem solving skills required
Understanding of P&IDs and other technical documentation related to the chemical process industry required
Fluent in English, oral and written required
Ability to communicate with a diverse group of industry professionals required
Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues and effectively resolve problems within a limited timeframe required
Demonstrated knowledge of business required, including strategies, roles and responsibilities of all departments in similar manufacturing environment required
Ability to adjust schedule to meet business needs and address unexpected issues required
Demonstrated leadership in a “Safety First” environment required
Experience with and knowledge of OSHA Process Safety Management program required
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
Support all plant safety, environmental, and quality assurance goals and initiatives.
Be a mentor and supervisor to less experienced engineers and technicians.
Facilitate personnel development through outside training sponsored by suppliers, manufacturers and other training resources.
Investigation of improved methods of plant operation, energy savings and equipment efficiency are priorities of this position.
Assist Operations and Maintenance personnel in solving plant problems.
Promote and facilitate communications with line supervision which result in improved solutions to problems.
Determine and propose engineering studies to improve plant efficiency and equipment reliability.
Provide mechanical design, procurement, planning, and supervision of capital projects.
Analyzing and evaluating process problems and performing feasibility studies of plant modifications.
To help maintain accurate, complete and orderly engineering files, drawings and documentation.
Responsible for capital project management
Assist the Purchasing Manager with planning and material procurement for major plant outages.
Participate in the scheduling of outside vendors and contractors.
Enhance the plant safety program by investigating and proposing equipment and installations which reduce risks to personnel and the environment.
Manage and monitor ammonia plant catalyst efficiency. Manage nitric acid plant catalyst pool.
Regularly Communicate with supervisor work progress, concerns and questions.

Increase plant safety, reliability, profitability and operability.
Provide a safe and environmentally sound operation.
Eliminate costly mistakes, develop cost savings to projects, and ensure projects complete on time and on budget.
Eliminate delays resulting from lack of coordination between departments.
Provide efficient and effective communication between all departments.
Provide creative ideas and solutions to problems that have been accepted due to previous failures.
