Tuesday – Saturday 2:00pm-10:00pm

Overview:

Under the general supervision of the Superintendent of Trades Operations and the Trades & Custodial Manager, the Trades Specialist (Second Shift) performs construction and maintenance of District capital assets and infrastructure. This position will also be assigned custodial duties, including, but not limited to facility cleaning and room preparation as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

+ Inspect, maintain, and repair all aspects of District capital assets and infrastructure including but not limited to buildings, aquatic facilities and splash pads, playgrounds, shelters, hardscapes, fences, bridges, and irrigation systems.

+ Execute work orders related to interior and exterior building components including but not limited to carpentry and woodworking, roofing, masonry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC (furnace, boiler, A/C, building automation systems), and painting. Accept, update, and close work orders in computerized maintenance management system.

+ Coordinate with service contractors for the inspection and maintenance of backflow prevention devices, security and fire alarms, fire suppression systems, and elevators.

+ Work with pool and splash pad mechanical systems, ensuring acceptable operation and water chemistry.

+ Install and maintain District key and lock system, doors, gates, and related hardware.

+ Fabricate, install, and maintain District signage.

+ Order and conduct inventory of equipment and supplies.

+ Perform diagnostic work including review, interpretation, and application of information in operator’s manuals for various equipment and building systems.

+ Hire and oversee performance of contractors.

+ Gather information necessary for the preparation of reports, proposals, and budgets.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

+ Operate a variety of equipment and motor vehicles including dump trucks, pick-up trucks, end loaders, bucket trucks, backhoes, tractors, and lifts.

+ Perform snow and ice removal operations using snow removal equipment on sidewalks, roads, parking lots, and roofs of District facilities.

+ Assist in training, preparing work schedules, and delegating work to part time employees.

+ Perform set-up, support, and take-down for special events.

+ Attend training related to essential duties and responsibilities of Trades Specialist position, as assigned.

+ Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

+ Knowledge and skills of the methods, practices, use, minor repair of, and operation of equipment and tools used in general maintenance and construction.

+ Ability to understand service manuals, wiring diagrams, technical drawings/specifications, and maintenance and operator’s manuals.

+ Knowledge of and ability to perform a variety of skilled trades-related tasks including HVAC, building automation systems, pump systems, roofing/building envelope, electrical systems, plumbing, rough/finish carpentry, plumbing/irrigation systems, and welding.

+ Skill in the operation of building maintenance and cleaning equipment.

+ Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work schedule with limited supervision.

+ Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and manual tasks.

+ Working knowledge of basic computer software including computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office.

Education and Experience:

+ High school diploma or equivalent.

+ Minimum five (5) years of experience in general maintenance or construction with additional technical and trades training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

+ Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid (Class C) driver’s license within three (3) months of hire.

+ Must obtain and maintain Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certifications within 12 months of hire. The exact deadline will be provided at the time of hire and will be based on class availability and testing schedules. Training will take place outside of regularly scheduled shift.

+ May be assigned to other training or required to obtain certifications, as needed.

Special Considerations:

+ Subject to both office and outside environmental conditions.

+ Subject to modified/flexible work schedules based on District needs.

+ Ability to lift, carry, and/or move objects weighing = 50 lbs. on a weekly basis. Lifting assistance is required when lifting > 50 lbs.

+ Exposure to pesticides, chemicals, dust, fumes, dirt, loud noise, and insect bites.

+ Ability to frequently travel to and work at all Naperville Park District facilities.

+ Prolonged lifting, stooping, bending, twisting, standing, and climbing.

+ Regular exposure to heights.

+ Subject to confined space entry.

+ Subject to respirator use. Will be required to pass a Quantitative Fit Test.

+ Manual dexterity and strength to operate power-operated machines and equipment.

+ Regular onsite attendance is an essential function of this position.
