Job Description

Levi, Ray & Shoup, Inc. (LRS) is seeking a Payroll Specialist/Accountant to join our team. As a member of our accounting team, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of multiple employee payrolls and for providing other general accounting duties as assigned.

This position is based at the LRS HQ location in Springfield, Illinois. Your compensation will consist of a base salary plus paid overtime, as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties listed below are not intended to be all inclusive, additional duties may be required as needed and at the direction of the supervisor.

+ Work closely with the Human Resources staff to enter, review, and maintain information in the payroll system to ensure accurate and timely payroll transactions including salaries, commissions, bonuses, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.

+ Process multiple employee payrolls

+ Ensure compliance with multiple federal, state, and local payroll, wage and hour laws and best practices.

+ Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.

+ Ensure timely response and resolution with any payroll discrepancies and assist employees with payroll inquiries.

+ Maintain all payroll operations according to company policies and procedures including collecting and reviewing timesheets for accuracy.

+ Assist with completion of monthly timesheets.

+ Issue, or reissue, physical or replacement checks or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge.

+ Record and process federal, state and local payroll tax deposits.

+ Assist in filing quarterly federal, state and local payroll tax returns.

+ Process 401k contributions

+ Assist with preparing for internal and external audits by providing records and documentation as requested.

+ Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures to support efficiencies as needed.

+ Assist Accounting Manager with month-end close tasks and reconciliations as assigned.

Applicant Requirements

+ At least three years’ experience in a payroll or accounting role.

+ Demonstrated knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.

+ Two years of experience using Microsoft Office tools – Outlook, Word, and Excel.

+ Permanent authorization to work in the USA for any employer. No visa sponsorships are available.

Effective written and verbal communications skills are keys to success in this position. Close attention to detail, ability to work within deadlines and adherence to defined procedures, accuracy, customer satisfaction, and the ability to work as a member of a team are also important aspects of this role. You will have access to confidential information. Maintaining confidentiality will also be important to your success in this position.

You will be a member of the accounting team and you will report to the Accounting Manager who reports to the Director of Accounting and Corporate Taxation. You will interact with LRS Senior leadership, team members, sales managers, account executives, customers, and vendors in completing the tasks of your role.

Salary range: $50,000-65,000 annually plus paid overtime and full benefits. This range represents the low and high for this position. The salary will vary depending on factors including, but not limited to, experience and performance.
