Job Description

Must lead and retain a designated fleet of drivers following driver manager guidelines. Must understand and apply the Hours of Service regulations. Must negotiate rates with workers compensation insurance companies. Must follow treatment progress of workers on workers compensation benefits and review alternative duties. Must ensure a cooperative environment with consistent communication and flow of information concerning delivery related issues. Must understand of United States geography. Must ensure fair and consistent application of and adherence to company policies. Must understand and successfully train drivers on Midwest’s Mobile App, Peoplenet, Weight & Management Scale, Cargo Security and Securement Loading. Must negotiate and arrange transport of goods with shipping or freight companies. Must determine method of shipment and prepare bills of lading, invoices, and other shipping documents. Must track delivery progress of shipments. Must estimate freight or postal rates and record shipment costs and weights. Must keep records of all goods shipped, received, and stored. Must retrieve stored items and trace lost shipments as necessary. Must arrange insurance coverage for goods. Must check import or export documentation to determine cargo contents and use tariff coding system to classify goods according to fee or tariff group. Must coordinate and supervise activities of workers engaged in packing and shipping merchandise. Must manage and coordinate all accident investigations to DOT standards while initiating the claims process and complete incident reports for management review. Must remain current on changes to and maintain a library of federal, state and local transportation and environmental regulations. Must receive all accident calls and work with dispatch and equipment personnel to get equipment recovered and repaired in a timely manner. Must maintain all accident files and records for safety and compliance purposes. Must implement the necessary steps and procedures to ensure that all new driver applications are processed to ensure that all driver are processed and onboarded with the highest priority. Must perform necessary driver DOT processing. Must manage the company’s drug free work place policy, ensure proper testing for preemployment, vehicle authorization, reasonable suspicion, post-accident follow up, and safety policies. Must perform all compliance filings including vehicle license plating, and registrations, mileage reporting, IFTA annual filing, weekly PM schedules. Must schedule random drug testing in compliance with DOT regulations. Must ensure annual vehicle inspections are performed. Must ensure all safety and compliance documents and records (including violations and disciplinary actions taken) are documented.
