Collins Aerospace – Electric Power Systems, Generators, and Emergency Power Test Equipment, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer. The candidate will be responsible for developing mechanical and hydraulic test equipment for the development and production of aircraft power generation components. The Test Equipment group supports both test facilities and programs through the entire life cycle of development to production. This is a job that always has a new challenge as we continue to invent the future of aircraft electric power systems.

The candidate must be an analytical thinker and be adept at the design, build, and checkout of test setups. The candidate must have experience working with gearboxes, machined components, hydraulic systems, and structural assemblies. This position will function as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and will support our generator test labs and wind tunnels through the development of new Test Equipment and the support of Production Test Equipment. The ideal candidate will be a creative member of the team who will assist in developing the vision for upgrading our test equipment to the latest technology.

Onsite

+ Must be a commutable distance to Rockford, IL to work onsite. This role is eligible for relocation.

Primary Responsibilities:

+ Review test specifications and determine requirements for test equipment setup.

+ Design hardware required for test stand interface with test units.

+ Determine requirements and design of hydraulic circuits.

+ Incorporate instrumentation into test setups including flows, pressures, load, torque, airspeed, vibration, and temperature.

+ Oversee build, checkout, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems with test operators.

+ Create drawings, presentations, and papers to document designs.

+ Create project estimates and work within a budget for time and cost.

Qualifications /Experience Needed:

+ Ability to work with machinists and mechanics to create and modify test equipment.

+ Prepare and present analysis, reports, test results, and other contract deliverables related to analyses performed.

+ Ability to work on large and small projects.

+ U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

+ Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience .

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Hands-on experience is a plus.

+ Ability to understand or cross over into the electrical and LabVIEW disciplines is a plus.

+ Written and verbal communication skills

+ Ability to travel on occasion – 5%
