Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) is looking for a motivated professional to serve as the Staff Wellness Regional Coordinator for the Southern Region to ensure staff wellness initiatives are implemented.  The selected candidate will provide guidance and assistance to employees, Staff Development and Training,  facility trainers and management. Additionally, they will serve as a liaison between vendors and staff for educational programs and manage vendor contracts of staff wellness programs. Job Responsibilities

  1. Provides guidance and assistance to employees of the Department of Corrections (DOC) through staff wellness initiatives in the Southern Region.

  2. Manages vendor contracts of staff wellness programs for DOC in the Southern Region, works with DOC Fiscal regarding vendors contracts and participates in the procurement process, monitors executed contracts, serves as agency point of contact for the vendor of staff wellness programs.

  3. Assists Staff Development and Training, facility trainers, and management in the development of formal and on-the-job training programs for institution staff.

  4. Coordinates with the Agency morale activities and initiatives committee’s Chief Administrative Officers statewide, Chief Public Safety Officer, and agency Chief of Staff to ensure that employee wellness initiatives are implemented throughout the Southern Region.

  5. Serves as a consultant to community groups and organizations by working closely with community leaders in coordinating correctional staff needs and services with assigned facilities, and in the development of prevention, control and aftercare programs.

  6. Prepares information and data for research and evaluation of programs implemented, analyzes data, and prepares reports for the Staff Wellness Program Administrator.

  7. Assists the Staff Wellness Program Administrator in the development of unit and program policies and procedures.

  8. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with coursework in business or public administration.

  2. Requires one (1) year of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization, or completion of an agency approved professional management training program.

 

Special Skills Requirements


  1. Requires at least one (1) year of peer support team experience in a correctional setting.

  2. Requires at least one (1) year working experience in Critical Incident Stress Management debriefs and canvass in a correctional setting.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  1. Prefers at least five (5) years of working experience in a correctional facility.

  2. Prefers at least two (2) years as the facility coordinator on the Staff Wellness Response Team (SWRT).

  3. Prefers at least three (3) years on the Staff Wellness Response Team (SWRT).
Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.

  2. Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.

  3. Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.

  4. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.

  5. Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.
