Job Description

Statistician III (Chicago, IL) – Telecommuting Permissible. (multiple positions). Design data processing pipelines and quality control procedures for complex and large-scale NORC sociological projects and surveys; Design, write, implement, and QC computer programs to make statistical calculations necessary for creating data delivery files and survey estimations; Build macros, dashboards, and process automation tools to increase efficiency of survey data cleaning, variable derivation, and estimates creation; Develop procedures to calculate weights, control totals, and perform weighting calibrations to ensure accurate representation of the target US population from survey samples.; Provide statistical support to research director and project manager in conducting research and analyses on survey sampling and operational data from which insights are drawn regarding data collection efficiency, operational costs, and sampling completes prediction; Author and proof the data processing, survey weighting, and analysis sections of survey methodology reports, final technical reports, and other documentary deliverables; Consult with clients regarding statistical analyses, providing technical information on the types of analyses, limitations of the data, and strengths/weaknesses of various strategies; Write and QC programs, and develop templates to produce weekly and monthly fast-turnaround reports of near real-time and enhanced survey estimates; Conduct and publish independent research in areas of subject matter expertise; Contribute to or write the methodological sections of technical proposals, and/or direct and review junior statisticians in writing proposal sections; Supervise and provide guidance to junior statisticians assigned to the project. Telecommuting permissible. Requires a Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Statistics or related field, and three (3) years work experience in the job offered or a related Survey Statistician position. Also requires three (3) years of experience with each of the following: 1) performing SAS and R programming that clean and process large scale survey data, derive and impute variables, & perform statistical analyses and modeling; 2) implementing Survey Data Processing and Quality checks for sociological projects; 3) providing statistical consulting and analyses and programming support to clients; 4) writing for large-scale public health survey proposals; and 5) developing automated processes and macros for producing data deliveries, survey weights and tabulations of weighted survey estimates.
