Job Description

Employment Status: Staff

Description of Key Responsibility:

1. Deliver mail to and pick up mail from campus mailroom and other collection points on campus.

2. Inspect the building and its components on a regular basis to identify and prioritize necessary cleaning and repair activities and report safety and security concerns.

3. Perform servicing, adjusting and minor repairing of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic equipment, including both building components and equipment used in the building. Install minor building components and replace light bulbs and tubes. Report the need for more extensive work by others, including outside contractors, to immediate supervisor.

4. Plan and schedule work to be performed and assign work to those supervised.

5. Coordinate daytime cleaning, maintenance and setup activities with building management personnel and users, and with contract personnel working in the building (i.e. food service personnel, outside contractors, etc.) so as to maximize efficiency of operations and minimize disruptions to building usage.

6. Clean building and building components, including floors (carpet, tile, wood, etc.), walls, mirrors, windows (inside and outside), building fixtures and furnishings. Cleaning activities include refuse removal, sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, dry and wet mopping, scrubbing and waxing.

7. Setup rooms for particular functions by moving and arranging furniture and accessories, including: chairs, tables, lecterns, and audio/visual equipment, as directed. May remove or rearrange furniture and accessories at conclusion of function.

8. Replenish consumable supplies, primarily washroom supplies, as necessary.

9. Remove snow and ice from walkways and other areas adjacent to the building.

10. Participate in planning and control activities, including input to and monitoring of budget. Ensure that materials and supplies are available when necessary, utilizing the College’s purchasing system, and are properly secured when in storage and are used in a manner which minimizes waste.

11. On occasion, the person in this position will assist with various grounds department tasks. Some of these tasks include but are not limited to: mowing, weeding, raking, policing grounds for litter and other debris, and removal of snow during the winter months.

12. Work at other locations as assigned to temporarily substitute for personnel not available or to supplement personnel during times of unusually heavy workload. May arrange for lending of assigned workers or borrowing of workers from other supervisory personnel, within the maintenance and business operations department to ensure that staffing level is consistent with day-to-day workload.

13. Perform other related duties and tasks as appropriately assigned.

Education/Training:

A high school diploma is required. Some college course work is preferred.

Experience:

A minimum of three years’ experience in building cleaning and maintenance is preferred.

Licenses or Certifications:

A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required.

Position Summary:

To ensure that assigned buildings are clean, functional and properly arranged for routine and special functions during evening and weekend hours, as well as during the normal school day.
